This is the boat I want to tow, it's not mine but it is a friend's. It's either a 22 or 24 ft tige.

Find out how much it weighs. If its under the tow rateing of your truck, then Yes. It will tow it just fine. :)

I'm pretty sure the factory says it weighs 4000 lbs w/o fluids like gas. That's w/o the trailer too. Dunno how much that weighs, 1000 lbs???

I tow about 6,200 lbs (1967 FJ40 on trailer ready to camp) and the Tacoma never lets me down. Your Tacoma should tow that boat just fine. With 6,000 lbs behind me the engine has to work a little harder on the steep grades, but seems happy to do it.

You want a real answer to the weight, find a truck scale and weight the truck and what's in tow. Then you'll know for sure. People never figure in gas, beer, watertoys, audio upgrades, etc., etc., etc...

As for sport vs. off road - either one will be fine. I pull mine and the neighbors' boats without any trouble - and our ramps are original dirt construction - all natural! Most are up my way. I pull out and set in using 4l - easier on the ramps. Once out and level, drop it back to 2wd and tow away.

Tip: don't use "D" if you have an automatic and you're not traveling flat roads. Hills cause a lot of tranny hunting, which is legal only in San Francisco.

One more thing that I dont think has been mentioned yet regarding Sport vs. Off-Road when it comes to towing... The Sport has slightly thicker sway bars which will help with stability a bit when towing. The Off-Road uses a smaller set up for better articulation. I know this thread is more about locker vs. LSD, but thought I would add that point as well. I personally have an Off-Road and do quite a bit of towing with it and have little complaint when it comes to stability.
