What exactly is the XKLOADER2? Can't seem to find anything on DEI's website about it.

Thanks, this seems like what I'm looking for. Are you able to provide a model number or something similar for a basic remote start? I'm not wanting a mystery brand from Wal-Mart, I'm still wanting a quality starter I just don't need tons of options that come with it.

    Thanks everybody!

Hopefully this is helping out hookedontronics? < And I love your build! I will slowly work on stealing/borrowing some of the things you have done with your truck. :)

    I'll bite...

Anyone in the Portland metro area that can provide a covered and moderately heated workspace, camera, and Flying Pie pizza & Pepsi gets them a free install on a Clifford, Viper, or Python brand alarm system.

Anyone willing to travel to Portland and fulfill the food and alarm requirements gets the same offer. And finally, anyone within reasonable travel distance from Portland (Seattle, for example) willing to pay for my gas, meet other requirements, and give me and my dog a place to stay for the night, can also make arrangements with me...

And ll throw a DIY up on the forums when done.

Otherwise, you can pm me and I'll shoot ya my number and we can talk over the phone

And I'll do one more for those that don't fit any of those offers....

Wiring diagram that I used to put my alarm in.... note, this is for a 2005 Tacoma

And if you should decide to use this info, I STRONGLY SUGGEST knowing how to use a multimeter (not test light or probe) and triple verifying each of these wires before you hook into them.

I also cannot stress the importance of actually soldering your connections - T-taps and other types of splices are just a horrible way of installing an alarm.... I know, I've done them damn near every way possible.

I don't think there's much difference in them.... it's not like the Taco had THAT many changes to it, especially from a wiring standpoint

I compared to the 09 wiring.... no difference, don't have access to '10 version though

I've been installing remote starters since 1993... (makes me old doesn't it?!) And I realize that DEI products like Viper and Python are the brands that have saturated the market. They are good products.
But after installing for this long, and considering how vehicles have changed over the years, everything is becoming more and more data controlled. That means CAN-bus circuits instead of 12 volt and ground circuits. There is nothing on the market easier to install and more reliable over the years than Compustar's 6000 series modules paired with iDatalinks interface modules... particularly the Blade-AL and Blade-TB series. They are definitely more expensive, which is the only drawback. But in 8 years of using strictly Compustar, I have only sent back 3 control modules as defective. DEI's return rate is much, much higher, plus they are much bulkier to install, due to their off-board relay packs and miscellaneous harnesses.

Your 2010 Toyota would respond much better IMO, with the Compustar, and there are many options that would suit your needs. Installed at our shop in Nebraska, they run from $300 installed upwards to $800 depending on features and remote styles. Check them out and throw any questions at me you may have. www.compustar.com

If you have a factory remote already, you are able to trigger the compustar system with that remote but the drawback is you are limited to the operating range of the factory remote... usually less than 100 feet, so the Compustar remotes will give you the best range.

If need be, I can provide the parts and tech/wiring sheets you may want for installing yourself. Just let me know.

    GOOD LucK!

I'm interested in eventually getting a remote start. I know you guys are all about the fancy alarm systems with bells and whistles but I'm happy with my manual door locks, I just want to be able to start the car from a distance.

Quick question, once started via remote, do how does the ignition work? Would I be able to put the key in and turn it to drive with the engine already running? Is this setup even possible on my year 2000 first-gen taco without any kind of OEM alarm system? My truck is bare-bones, manual doors/windows, everything.

Yes, thread hijack #2 lol sorry OP.

For most of the systems you simply get in the car, insert the key, turn the car on, and then hit the brake. Doing it out of order kills the car, do it correctly and you are ready to drive.

Well I would sugest u get a remote starter made for manuals like any of the viper, python , or clifford le series r made for manuals I also believe that most compustars r mde for manuals on the vipers u have to install em a little different and u must perform a squence in order for te remote starter 2 engage
