    Bummer dude.

We have a 50/15 connection here at our office, and I have a 40/10 at my house. It's insanely fast.

I want to get one of the business-class fiber connections (35/35) but they don't allow that in a home unless you pay an insane amount of money...

i normally would be pickier, but since he only wants it for torrent and porn, the rest doesn't mean anything.

At that price I would just get it, wipe it clean and reload the OS without all the bullshit that HP puts on their machines and see what happens.

You could have 15 xHamster.com tabs open, 10 YouPorn.com tabs open and be Torrenting like crazy without too much issue at all I would imagine. The only time you may see it lag is if you open a large video file. That is where a SSD would come in handy. :D

    Exactly.

For him, that is a great machine at a great price (assuming he actually gets what is listed).

the more people that get on the 4g the slower it goes. when you download stuff there is a lot of traffic down and very little back up. The hotspot is getting saturated for download and the upload is still free.

Our new office is hopefully going to be 50/50. We shouldn't need anything more than that, even with the new Thin Client environment we're moving to.

xHamster, xVideos, RedTube, PornHub, and SlutLoad FTW.

Our 4G service on Sprint here is the best, we are getting right around 35/10 or so.

I can't wait for the 4G iPhone 5 to come out next year - I'm so glad I waited on upgrading.

I like our iphones, but at the same time, its about as much benefit to me as it would be to my grandma, my next phone will hopefully be a droid.

Easy - just get a cheap external hard drive (these days you can get 1TB drives for less $100). I use a 1TB Western Digital Passport USB 3.0 drive and it's awesome - transfer speeds are insane.

Just drag all your shit to the drive (I would organize as much as possible), double-check every folder you've ever touched to be sure you got everything, then wipe it.

I don't see myself switching from an iPhone in the next 10 years...

Old hardware isn't worth much anymore... as far as getting your stuff off, you can either get a big flash drive or get a usb adapter for the hard drive.

I second the SSD drive that fink mentioned. I have one in my laptop running my os and I'll never go back. It's retardedly fast. OCZ vertex 3

Those are sweet, and cheap! We use a Thermaltake BlacX Black Widow Cradle here at the office, as we have mostly desktops users and this cradle can handle both 2.5" and 3.5" SATA drives. I just wish they would add USB 3.0 to it, and increase the cap on the drive size.

I prefer the external drives as they add data redundancy, should something happen in the transfer process.

Ideally, you would get an external drive as well as the adapter. Back all of it up, transfer it via the adapter/cradle, and bam!

    Agreed.

You would be better off replacing the mobo, get it up and running and then give it to your daughter to use when she is old enough.

    Whatcha got?

They have 512GB flash drives now...I can remember when they first came out. I think I paid like $50 for a 1GB SanDisk or something.

I will never go back either. I have a 256GB WD SiliconEdge Blue drive for my office desktop - it has changed my life.
