    so, i was walking through academy sports yesterday, bad place for me to be!! i noticed a mossberg maverick 88 12ga 18.5 on sale for 169.99... i bought it.... figured it would be a great beater gun, anyone else have one? or familiar with mossbergs maverick line of guns? reliable?

    I had a longer barrel 88 but it was a decent gun the only reason I didn't like it was it had a none replacable choke, and hard to put custom sites on.

    thanks for the replies.. i dont know what the deal is, but lately im finding a lot guns for sale really cheap. picked up a high point 9mm for dirt dirt cheap a few weeks ago. like less than a bill cheap.. im snatching them up like crazy.

    I've had an 88 for about 16 years. Got it when I was about 15. It's busted thousands of clays, slaughtered a turkey or two and a bunch of doves, even a few ducks.

    Last few years it's been wearing HD gear:

    same as above....i've had mine for around 16 years....beat the ever living hell outta it...and it refuses to surrender. no telling how many thousand round thru it without a single problem.
