Why doesn't my 1943 Mauser have a cleaning rod....99% original

    I have a Mauser 98K made in Berlin in 1943, by Mauser(nearly 100%) , it has a bayonet lug but so many I see on line have the cleaning rod in place of that lug...any help?

    the stock has no drilled hole for a rod.....mauser 1943 98k bayonet lug matching numbers

    Mauser was the last year built in 1943 in berlin for the 98 k thats what i have

    I thought a one point they started giving the soilders a type of snake to clean the barrels. I know some of the cleaning kits came with a type of snake to pull thru the barrel.I have seen them with a small chain and a cord type.........

    I think you are correct, I am just trying to get all the correct parts to keep it as close to original. I did have an original sling that was in very good condition beleive it or not, that is until my dog found it while I was in the garage cleaning the rifle. CRAP!!
