    this will only work if you happen to have a system restore point. Since he had this issue a month ago as well, it may not bring him back to a point in time where the problem is gone.

    by doing so, you also lose anything you've put on the computer since then. If you don't like it then you can't go back.

    if he is seeing the issue i asked about, there is an easy fix. I've seen this fake AV and i know what it is doing. When you clean the AV off, it breaks the default file association with .exe. The fake AV app replaced the default app for a .exe with itself so it can control anything you run on the computer. You have to repair that and it will allow you to run programs again.

    What exactly are your symptoms? That's pretty important in this case.

    First off, go here and download DDS. Close all other programs. Run it, and copy/paste the log in here for me.

    I use Malwarebytes - after the 3rd infection I opted to pay the annual fee for the upgraded version and have had no problems in 2 years.

    I found that it was best to download the free version to a zip drive from another computer and then run it on the infected computer.
