i want the truck to be a 4x4 and ride high enough to give me adqaute clearance in winter storms. The X runner looks good but i want a truck to be a truck.

Hi gang, i have a few questions that i think are more opinion than fact based which will help me start picking my future pick.

I am leaning towards a 4x4 Accesscab or Double Cab. As for new or used, i dont have a preference as long as it's not been beaten really badly. In the past i have bought year or two old certified used cars from the dealer.

    - are any model year 2nd generation trucks better than the others?
    - should any year 2nd generation be avoided?
    - automatic or manual transmission, is one better than the other? i will very rarely drive it off road unless i get to know some you guys on here and am able to tag along on one of your off-road adventures.
