Sat/GPS antenna placement help.....

Hey there!!! Just trying to install my Kenwood DNX into my Taco and wondering where everyone is putting there GPS and sat radio antennas? In my last truck there was room in the dash by the defroster vents that got great reception but is hard to see if there is any place under the dash to do this in my 2008 Double cab. Please help!!!

2011 has room above the plastic defroster tubes leading to the dash vents. The dash above there is all vinyl (mostly transparent to GPS transceiver frequencies). I would think the '08 would be about the same if not identical.

 

THANKS!!! I hope so..... will tear it apart and just set the GPS antenna in there and see if it gets any reception

 

I just jammed my in behind the stereo to the left a bit, there was a space the right size. you can see a small bump on the dash where it is if you look carefully, a lot better than having it on the dash

 

Agreed, when I installed my DNX-5180 I put the small adhesive plate on top of the defroster tube, then centered the magnetized antenna on top of that so it resides between the top of the tube and underside of the dashboard.

Don't neglect to use that small plate under the antenna. It acts as a ground plane. At GPS freqs the wavelength is quite short so it doesn't need much of a physical ground plane, sizewise, but it must be there to get as much performance as possible.

I'm not using the satellite radio feature so didn't mess with that.
