From a person who has had two previous back surgeries including the famous lumbar fusion, my best advice to your wife is stay positive in her thoughts & take it one day at a time. Needless to say, your family is in our prayers. Please keep us posted on her recovery

Wifes back surgery was done today. Long day for me, just got home. Everything seems to have gone OK. The doc told me that there was more damage there than they originally thought, but she should be fine in a few weeks. When I left, they had just given her morphine and she had fallen asleep. She said she felt OK but was having trouble getting comfortable. Probably be bringing her home on wednesday. I'd like to thank everyone for the kind words, they were appreciated.

I have an ex who had back surgery in that very same area. Did well for her but the pain started to come back after a few years. An excellent chiropractor and a lifestyle change ended up being the permanent fix.

Exercise and stretching keeps things moving and strong, and the chiropractor helps when things go out of whack.

Best of luck to both of you!

EDIT: Just saw that you're back from surgery. Glad it went smoothly. Wish her a quick recovery on my behalf! :)

I used to hear all the horror stories too. I always said I would never have back surgery. But I know a couple people who have had back surgeries lately and it has been wonderful for them. Almost immediate relief. I believe technology has come a long way in this department. Hopefully she has similar results.

Surgery went OK. She is feeling much better now. A little numbness in her left leg that is taking it's time going away. She's still out of work, probably for another 6 weeks or so. Thanks everyone for the kind words.

I'm glad everything went well. I retired from pro hockey due to a bad back. I had my L5/S1 fused a couple of years ago due to all of the damage. There is a web site that got me through a lot of difficult times. Here is a link:

    http://www.spine-health.com/forum

There are alot of people there that have been through the same thing and can give her tips for recovery, and share their experiences with her. It's a great forum, just like this one.
