I have some TV series that a guy has downloaded for me. He is going to put it on an external hard drive that I will be providing. What format should he save it as. He said windows media player should open it, but I don't have that on my MacBook Pro.

I have an old non hd tv. But I do have a gimmick that converts signal from our ps3 and satellite dish to work with the tv. So will I be able to convert this content over with the right dongler dangler gimmick plugged into the correct port or am I screwed as usual when it comes to technology!!!! Hehehe

ok, not a "mac guy", ... so take this w/ a grain of salt.. i'd think you'd need it in quicktime format, or .m4u format.. i don't think windows media format would work natively, ..unless there's an app for macs that will decode it..

..also, not sure what you are doing w/ the tv (is that your monitor?), and i don't know what "dongle"/device you're talking about here ..need some more details..

You can use the Flip4Mac plugin to play .wmv (Windows Media Player) files on your mac. You can output from your computer screen to your TV using any number of cables/adaptors depending on what inputs you have on your TV. For example, this adaptor will convert your mini display adaptor on your MacBook Pro to S-Video or composite video. You can search for similar adaptors depending on what inputs are available on your TV.

    http://www.amazon.com/DisplayPort-Composite-Video-S-Video-Converter/dp/B004VV8R86

You can download the Flip4Mac components plugin here:

    http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=9442

Once downloaded, simply install the plugin and you'll be able to play most any .wmv file. Hope that helps.

If they are in AVI format, then you should be just fine. Infact, if they are in WMV you should be good too.

Download "Perian" Its a quicktime add-on that allows Apple to unfuck itself and recognize other formats
