Just sayin'...I went through the pains of this myself and went BFG....should consider that option....the Hankook was one of my finalists.....

BFG All Terrain TA is a great tire for many folks... It is just more expensive than the Hankooks and I know of several people who have had failures in the sidewall and poor self cleaning issues in mud and snow with the BFGs. Plus, I personally don't think we should reward BFG when they make such a poor piece of crap tire in the Rugged Trail TA we all have to deal with when buying a new Toyota truck (the Off Roads anyway).

Agree, have not heard that much good about the Rugged Trail TA's....My wife has BFG Long Trail TA's on her RWD 4Runner and we're happy with those as a highway tire...also improved gas mileage about 2 mpg.....

My Tacoma is my daily driver...I've heard that the BFG AT KO's are a civil road tire, most people get 60K+ miles, and capable off road, along with snow rating...I live in PA snow belt, seemed like a good tire to suit my needs.

BTW...we do get snow here...and that was an important aspect in my decision for the BFG AT KO's..

Last time I looked the Nitto prices had gone through the roof. Someone told me it has something to do with the tsunami in Japan. Not sure if that was the reason but made sense. I had a set of Nittos on my 4Runner. didn't seem to be anything special.

Last I looked the General tires were $30 cheaper per tire, now that may have changed since I was shopping.

Of course I don't put anything but the best on my Tacoma-BFG AT K/O's.:D

JBA headers & exhaust, new cats, K&N CAI, new shocks, 2.5" lift, Prodigy P2, Timbren, snobord552 light bar (v.2), KC off-roads and Hella fog lights, Teflon A/R ATX 16" Ledge, Nitto Terra Grappler, (265/75R16's), ultragauge, curt roof rack on thule set-up.
Just went through the same thought/buying process. I am about to get rid of my second set of Bridgestone Dueler AT Revos (265/70/R16). Each set of "sneakers" hung on for about 50K miles, some road noise to be expected, decent traction in the snow.......not displeased by any means, just wanted a more aggressive tread pattern. After doing the analysis, Tire Buyer.com just delivered 265/75/16's yesterday, used the coupon, saved an additional 10%, (damn state sales tax, though!).

I know quite a few club members people who rave about Nitto tires for their track cars and they absolutely love the tires!......(and, it seems like they have a decent mfg warranty).....
I don't know much about Generals, good looking tho, and alot of people, in here, like them, that says a lot.....Tire Rack was back-ordered, so they are popular.
Wouldn't buy BFG's, (just me) I know they are ever popular....
Goodyears, well, I like the Duratraks but I was told they wear pretty fast and these consumable are too expensive to change once per year.....I was offerd a killer deal on the Wrangelr TD's but turned them down. Not for my useage/truck.

Hankook and (Sumitomo) for street use are hugely popular and decent tires....I used to run Sumitomo's on my C2/car- they were okay, but Michelins were better, and faster on the track.....just a lot more expensive. I believe this is part of the Chinese invasion into the tire business....their pricepoints makes them extremely enticing to most people, so I am not surprised that the Hankook's are getting a lot of good press. (Kinda like the Kia/Hundai explosion vs. Toyota/Honda- and If Kia/Hundai goes into the small truck segement, watch out......their vehicles will look great, be less expensive, but sacrifice ride quality/and or technology on some front to justify the lower price -besides better labor rates in S. Korea- just my .02)

Unfortunately, none of the off road tires (that I reviewed) seem to be warrantied for mileage (maybe I'm wrong) but the Off -Roaders apppear to have deeper tread depths....so, maybe they will hang in there for 50K miles? I did seriously look at the Dick Cepec's F-CII (???), but I couldn't justify the price difference.

In the end, they are all pretty damn good rubber, most of the decision will depend on how you will actually use the truck, combined with price level that fits your budget.
I think I saw you were looking at 285's.....you might loose a bit of gas mileage and power with the larger/wider tire vs. a 265 series........did that thought enter into the analysis? Also, the 265's were a tad less expensive.......GL
    Happy hunting.

Nitto (japan) #1, Hankook (korea) #2 and General (mexico) #3.
All of them perform well in most terrain but as far as the construction of each tire goes, Id have to say Nitto is superior. Just don't get the P rated Nitto's. They wear terribly. That's my 2 cents

I voted for the Nitto's. I had a set of 285/75R16's on my 96 4 Runner & got 70k out of them. I had Toyo's before that and were happy with them as well. I've always been a BFG guy, but they are way pricy compared to what else is out there. Problem is, the Nitto's are approaching BFG prices. I am seriously considering the Hankook's when I go to 285's though. They are pretty impressive for the price.

The generals do have a warranty for mileage. I got mine and they came with a 60,000 mile warranty.

Getting the Hankooks installed this afternoon, hope I made the right choice!

all 4 brand new installed, balanced, aligned, etc. : $743.00 out the door. Grabbers, Nittos, Firestones, Goodyears, just couldn't beat the price.
