Plus its a 4x4, not a PreRunner. PreRunners sell for a couple thousand less.

i've read a few articles about how much in demand good used vehicles are, especially trucks and suv's. consequently this can skew the prices that they are getting (supply and demand at work), even to the point where it can be cheaper to buy new. crazy, yes, but it can and does happen.

i kind of saw this when i was shopping for a tacoma, looked at low mileage 09's and 10's and found that it really was more worthwhile to buy the '11 new for just a tiny bit more money.

Wow you guys need to take a road trip to AZ next time you buy a vehicle. I bought my '02 about a year and a half ago w/ 61k miles for $11k.

And for the 4wd example my uncle works at Toyota and can get a 2012 v6 auto 4wd DC Off Road for $30,500 OTD

I can relate some of my experiences...

I traded my 85 FJ60 in on a 94 Toy pickup, base model, got blue book plus on trade, ended up having to put out 6k for the 94 Toy that I drove for 12 years and 220k...in 06 paid 15k out the door for a NEW dodge Ram 1500ST, short bed, two door, six cylinder, six speed.

Then got 7k trade 50 months later on the '11 Access Cab 4x4 six cylinder six speed at 27k minus trade. You HAVE to shop very carefully, there is a tremendous difference between dealers in ANY area. The monthly capital cost on the Dodge for 50 months use was $153 not including original sales tax. I normally don't trade newer vehicles in, but I needed four wheel drive after two very bad winters up on Unaka mountain...

Bought my daughter a Nissan Versa, they wanted 18k in Texas, got one for 13k in Ohio, both brand new, but with slightly different option packages. Do not be afraid to hop a bus to save 5k. I caught a ride from Tennessee to Dayton to get the car, on a Friday, drive it to Dallas for lunch with my younger children, then out Houston area, my oldest daughter then got me to Texarkana in her new car, and home on Tuesday via Greyhound. The bus ticket home was $79.

I saved 5k by traveling hard for a long weekend...first night was an Embassy Suites in Cincinnati, next was with former neighbors in Canton, Texas, third was at my daughters college and slept all the way home, including BBQ on Beal street in Memphis. I covered about 3k miles on that trip, jeep to dayton, versa to texas, greyhound home. While I was traveling, I left my truck at my wife's office, a six dollar cab ride from the bus station.

    Use all your travel resources.

from what I could see in my area, it seemed like used cars have been holding their value much better since the recession started, makes sense.

when I ran the numbers for my own situation it made more sense to me to just buy new. Plus, finding 4x4 in so cal is tough enough.

If you wouldn't pay sticker price on a new one, why would you consider paying dealer asking price on a used one?

and..... this is the reason why most dealers end up sending half or more of their used car inventory to wholesale auctions nowadays :)

fuck'em buy a new one lol.

regular cabs are nice and affordable here in south jersey.
speaking of which i have the hook up in sj if you want a toyota.
