I traded an 07 Double Cab Tundra TRD with 5.7 in August for my '11 DCLB Taco. I'm glad I did, but I do miss the Tundra's finer points.

    1. The Tundra is a much better ride. I had the TRD with 295/70/18 Nitto Terra Grapplers in E rating and a spacer lift, and the Tundra still rode smoother than my brand new Taco.
    2. The space in the Tundra Double Cab is plenty for you and your family. My Tundra was the trip vehicle for an annual pilgrimage to Ontario for a guys fishing trip with 3 grown men - plenty comfy for 2100 miles round trip three years in a row. The Taco will not be the road trip vehicle this year unless one guy drops out - not likely.
    3. Gas mileage is not going to compare - granted I lifted the front and added much heavier tires, but I was lucky to average 13.5 mpg.
    4. Towing is the Tundra's reason d'etre. I towed my buddy's 28' cutty cabin a few times and never felt the 8,000 lbs I was pulling. The Taco, not so much.
    5. Off-roading in the Tundra was a chore. It is so big, the traction control is not as well-tuned as the Taco, and it is so big - long and wide. Trail riding provides lots of pinstriping and extra careful maneuvering.
    6. Parking the Tundra is a pain. It is huge (did I mention that) and the turning radius could be better. But with practice, you will get good at it.

We traded for 2 reasons - the Tundra was an upgrade from an '01 Access Cab Tacoma that we needed to make when our second child was born. Now that the boys are in booster seats and not the huge baby/child seats, we no longer needed the extra room that the Tundra provided. And ease of driving - around town, parking, parking garages, etc., the Taco wins hands down.

    Just my 2 cents.

Hi all, back with an update.

After a lot of dealing with idiots at our local dealership while going back and forth between the 2 trucks we have chosen the Tacoma, and a different dealership to do business with.

2012 Nautical Blue double cab long bed sport upgrade package.

We pick it up the day after Christmas. :D

Congrats! I think you made a wise choice considering the wife will be behind the wheel sometimes. The tundra would have been my choice if I was going to tow a heavy travel trailer. The Tacoma will handle a lot of the newer light weight travel trailers they build now. Happy Holidays!
