BUCKLE UP! It makes it harder for Aliens to pull you out of your Truck.
Sand the grille with 2000 or 2500 grit after it's completely dried then hit it with all the paint polishing stuff and wax it. I bet it'll be beautiful once its polished out. I had a model funny car kit that scared me the same way but its my best model to date.

Sand it tomorrow (the entire grille should look dull because you've just sanded it) then yes, compound it (I like a little drop of water to create a paste), polish it and wax it. Also understand for the paint to fully cure it can take up to 30 days.

Do not keep heaping paint on it; less is more.

I would not use 800. At this point you want to start cleaning up the clear coat to polish it. That means being very, very easy on the grille with at worst 1500. Then 2000, then 2500 (and that's just to get the grille smooth!) You should only need one sheet or less of each. Use the WET sand paper and let it sit in a bucket for at least 10 minutes before using it.

Then, finally, compound, polish and wax.

You'll be good to go; relax.

    Happy New Year.
