10 to 1 it's the bedrails interfering with the design. At minimum the front rail would have to be completely removed.

I agree, it would be a killer cover. Knife-proof, wouldn't buffet in the wind, etc.

everytime someone clicks to enter the poll it bumps to the top... LOL

I bought a hard tonneau for the main reason that I can drive on wet roadways without having the back glass get all cruded up like the toppers and station wagons with the wind currents back there.
I tried the 'deflectors' on my topper'd S-10s and no joy.

I got the Undercover 'cuz its only 60 pounds I can remove and replace it by myself.

(DIY)...Fog lights, alloys, wheelwell liners, tonneau, frame cleanup & rustproofing, floor mats, trailer hitch.
After owning a number of trucks and trying all the listed options except a hard tonneau, I'm liking the soft tonneau. It's not perfect but it is very 'versatile'....much cheaper than a good cap and can be on/off in a few minutes (I have the fold up kind). I'd have to say that so far it's been the best overall choice for me, but it really depends on what your needs are.

not to jack the thread, but does it really improve the gas mileage if you have a cover? I remember watching mythbusters about the tailgate up vs down episode but I havent seen any about having a cover vs naked.

I have a truxedo soft tonneau, and I love it. I wish I had one on my old Tacoma! Makes it easy to stash stuff or just roll up when I need the space.

Purchased a tonneau (BAKflip G2 - http://www.autoanything.com/tonneau-covers/73A2808A0A0A3442892.aspx) after reading every last post on this thread. Thanks all for the input - I'll post pics and review later.
In the meantime, gotta figure out the whole locking tailgate deal. To pop & lock or not to pop & lock? That's for another thread!

I still love my diamond back cover. I must be the only taco on here running a diamond back. Shame since I have yet to find another cover as tough and versatile for my needs here in SoCal. I know it isn't for everyone but I've had people stop me all over the country and ask who makes it.

The cover is MADE IN THE USA specifically for the Tacoma. It easily supports 400 pounds so I stand on top of the thing to re-fill the tank with my scepter cans. I stand on there with my son + gear when we load the basket on top. I use it as a work platform. I am considering installing tie-down cleats and some day maybe rack hardware directly to the panels.

Both panels lock and have dual gas pistons to lift and keep them open. I can fold back the front or rear panel so they lay flat, remove in seconds, or strap down. I have direct access to anything I need in the front of the bed while more than half the bed remains dry/secure. The center panel has dual rain channels along the hinges, the rest of the water just runs over the edge of the cover and off the truck. The compression seal/weather strips can easily be replaced when the time comes and won't cost much. It keeps the bed very dry and it keeps out the dust and empty soda cans.

One person can remove all three panels in a matter of minutes. The front and rear without any tools in seconds, the middle with a socket wrench and a couple minutes. If I need to remove the entire cover it stores more easily than many out there and I can do it faster than most. I haven't seen anything else that compares. There are different panel configurations available and they have heavier duty and lighter duty covers than my SE.

Photo I posted earlier in this thread with the panels open:

I've had a few guys ask questions about the cover so here are a few more shots I posted.

I keep this action packer padlocked to the D-rings I installed in the bed. It fits perfectly and removes easily.

This is what it looks like with one of the panels folded back flat.

I have a small tool box now. But it's a pita squeezing my tool bag in and out. And removing it just to carry a sheet of plywood. I would like an Undercover.

I think that naked is by far the best looking!! I had a hard folding tonneau which was sweet if you needed to pick up tall items cause it just unclips and you can take it off. I have a Phantom Raider topper on my Taco now and its glorious, I don't think I could go without it. Its insulated and has a light above the gate. Great for the winter and I'm going to throw a foam matress in there for summer camping.

    Depends on the need.
I would love to have a cap for camping etc., but most of the time I prefer the truck look, so either open or tonneau.
I have a soft tonneau which is nice because it gives the protection from the elements and I can leave stuff in the bed without concern of it disappearing, but when I want to load something big I can just roll it up.

    Soft tonneau FTW.

It takes seconds to have 100% access to my bed with the soft version. Caps look ugly in my honest opinion.

I know that this is an older thread, but I am posting a comment because I voted for multiple items (Cap, Tonneau, and naked). I own both a Leer shell, and a tri-fold tonneau, and sometimes I run around with the bed naked. It all depends on what I am doing.
