Nope, unfortunately didn't do a thing for me. As mentioned above, shifts into 3rd constantly on the slightest incline. Anymore if I know I'm going to be going up a hill that will cause this, I deactivate cruise, handle the hill myself, and then put the cruise back on. You'd be surprised how many of those long, slow incline hills there are in KS.

Honestly, I can't believe that's an issue. My experience has always been they don't accelerate as fast as I want them to, and this problem is the opposite.

I didn't know about this issue when I bought the truck, but it's one of the reasons I would rather be in control of the gear changes. I work with computers for a living and see the weird problems that happen. I prefer to keep as much of that away from controlling the vehicle as possible. At least if the fly-by-wire crap in the accelerator flakes out I can just hit the clutch and pull to a stop. I can even turn off the ABS if that doesn't work either.

At least autos today (like in our rav) don't have the release button or other lock anymore. Can still bump it over or down to change gears a little easier.

Oh, I know what it is. Heard lots about it. Glad I have a manual because of it.

What I meant was, I can't believe Toyota or any other manufacturer let it happen. Or hasn't fixed it yet. Just in this thread alone the ECU re-flash has apparently had mixed results and hasn't fixed it 100%.

I guess things like this make me inherently mistrust automatics. I was hesitant about the fly-by-wire, but thus far no problems with 90k on it.

Sure it's two gear changes and not the TC unlocking ?

You can chose a gear but it shifts hard and fast coming down. Once you let your foot off the gas lockup drops out still brakes as all auto do though. Sorry you can't convince me I feel a lot better having control of what gear and when hand shifting an automatic makes for a hard shift.

I WAS a manual lover until I bought my tacoma. Absolutely HATED the manual tranny in it. Traded it for an auto and love it.

Plus, having knee issues now and can't handle the clutch anymore.

Have you driven a 2nd gen auto Tacoma ? My shifts aren't hard at all when I manually select them , no harder than if I had done the same in my old standard truck .

Why don't we all just quit arguing about transmission selection... instead we can discuss the ABS!!! or as i like to call it anti braking system...

Anyone here drive a newer matrix or corolla (maybe others) Helped my significant other buy a matrix awd (not a bad ride) and the way the auto is set up makes it really easy to shift straight to 3 instead of D.. musta heard 3 people complain about the car constantly braking while we were at the dealer..

I just got rid of my 09 6 speed for a 2012 auto. I couldn't take the chirping and knocking in the tranny. It's funny, my 88 pickup had a better manual transmission than that one did.

Go Auto; Better mileage and it doesn't drive like a dump truck. I've driven wheeler trucks and non insurable vehicles that shift better than my 6spd ever will...If I had to do it over again it would be an auto all the way.
