so, to add my TPMS story.......I picked up a new 2011 Prerunner a few weeks ago. It had an aftermarket set of wheel/tires installed at the dealer. They put the TPMS in the aftermarket wheels. I also got the original 16 inch steel wheels/tires. But, the steel wheels/tires did not have TPMS installed in them.

Anyway, I just removed the aftermarket wheels/tires and sold them. So, I put the 16 inch steels back on the truck (without the TPMS installed).

I had figured as soon as I started it I would get the TPMS light.

Guess what..........NO TPMS light! Drove it around town. It never came on.

It's fine by me. I dont care at all..........just unexpected! I wonder what the deal is?

I've heard people running snow tires who keep their summer tires with TPMS in the garage report they don't trigger the light unless they go on a long trip. I'm not sure if it's a time thing or a range thing. If it's a time thing, expect the light to trip soon. If it's a range thing and the person you sold them to lives close, it might not trip.

I had winter tires on steel wheels installed in November, and on the way home thought "Cool, that dang light's not gonna come on." Two days later, on the way to work...there it is. I don't know exactly how the system works, i.e. how often it "polls", but it will eventually catch up. Or should.
