I just wanted to give a quick thanks to the forum. I picked up an avic-930bt on sale over the holidays and finally installed it today. To pull it all together, I had to read several different threads so I thought I'd try to bring together the info for my particular install and maybe it will help someone else in the future.

My system: I have a 4-channel JL Audio amp under the passenger seat, with front channels driving MB Quart Components up front, and the rear channels bridged to drive my JL Audio Sub in the back. My portable music device is my iphone. My truck is a 2006 Access Cab TRD non-JBL.

I'm going to post links to sonicelectronix just for clarification of parts. I order some of these parts from them, but I'm not endorsing them or anything, however my experience was good.

For the ipod cable, if you check the manual, it says you need the CD-IUV51V, which tends to be very expensive. As long as you're not going to be connecting an Ipad, you can get away with the CD-IU50V which can be had for less. I confirmed it works with my 3GS. I stayed away from the no-name knock-offs as people seem to have bad experiences with them.

For the steering wheel controls I used the Axxess ASWC. As I was going through all my parts on hand last weekend, I found out that Metra has a plug-and-play wiring hardness for this so you don't have to cut anything. Made it super easy. Solder two wires to your head unit adaptors.

Needed a dash kit so I got the Scosche double-din, since I had good luck with the single-din version previously. Fit's well but it is a little cheasey with the trim ring. It's not perfect, but it works and I think only I will notice the imperfections. I bought the dash kit on ebay and the seller included the Toyota wiring harness that I needed.

I followed the bypass mods here:

I didn't connect the VSS wire or the reverse wire but I did run them to the area by the fuse box. From what I read, it sounded like the VSS wasn't necessary so I wanted to try without before trying to tap into ECU wiring (scares me a bit), and I don't need the reverse wire because I don't have a backup cam (yet).

I followed recommendations to locate the gps antenna under the dash. It fits snuggly in there between the ducts and the dash and reception seems to be fine. It's basically located directly behind the deck, slightly to the left.

For the mic, I located it on the driver's side a-plliar at the top near the visor. Made a couple calls and was told reception is clear.

Ran the ipod cable through the glovebox so that the connect is sticks out near the 12volt receptacles, and if I want, I can still disconnect it from the included usb/aux-in and plug something else it and store it in the glovebox.

I think that's about it. Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics. I was focusing on getting it done in daylight and staying warm in the Canadian winter.

Any specific questions or if I left something out, let me know. Again, I didn't invent anything here, just followed a range of posts on here and avic411.com

I have a double cab and did almost everything exactly the same. Same parts except I used the Metra dash kit (not 100% satisfied with it either). Ran my microphone up to the plastic cover over the OEM reverse camera wires going to the rear-view mirror. Ran my apple interface cable into the little cubby below the radio and in front of the gear shifter section of the console. Controls an iPod I mostly leave in place.

Everything except two things is great for me:
    (1) start-up time -- I can be almost a block away before the BluTooth syncs up
    (2) can't re-arrange the icons on the left side fo the screen - would like to put iPod, FM, and CD sources next to each other instead of having Pandora and Aha in between.

Not sure if you would be interested, but you can pick up an aux microphone from Sonic and others (made by Pioneer, MC20 is the Pioneer part number) for either $20 or $30 (I forget). Put the mike at your headrest, run the built-in routine, and get an automated sound equalization curve. You can do the same thing (maybe better) manually, but for those who lack the tuning ability...

    Nope.

The one you reference is to hook up the head-unit to the speaker/power/ground wires using the factory plugs. No need to worry about what color goes where.

The Metra link http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...a-70-8114.html is to hook the factory steering wheel control to the ASWC and to the Pioneer head-unit. Again, no need to worry about what color goes where.

Yeah I forgot to mention my first post that I bought my dash kit on ebay and the seller included that scosche wiring harness adaptor. That is a critical part that is needed, but as lbridges said, is separate from the Metra adapter listed which is for the steering wheel controls only.

I'm still figuring things out and tweaking settings, but I noticed the same connect time with bluetooth. I'll be half a block away before it's connected. I'll also be out the driveway before I can change the source.

The only thing that bugs me at the moment is when I plug in my iphone it switches to that source automatically. The majority of the time I just want to plug it in so i can charge it, and continue to listen to the FM radio or CD. Do you know if that's a setting somewhere?

Sorry, not a clue. I'm an android phone guy and use the cable for an 64-GByte iPod Touch that comes out only to change stored content using iTunes.
