i installed a cb radio on my 06 prerunner today but when i turn it on i do not pick up any signal and it does not produce any kind of noise. I have a 4ft antenna mounted on the side of the bed behind the drivers side. My antenna is not grounded at this point because i was told by a friend that shouldnt be an issue. This is a link to the antenna i have below and i just have a base cobra model for radio.any suggestions would be great.

turn your squelch knob to the left untill you hear static noise, then turn it slightly back to the right so there is no static heard.

that would be the easiest step to help diagnose what the problem is..hopefully it would be just the squelch needed to be adjusted

EDIT: what kind of CB radio do you have

dont have to get it tuned first but someone with an SWR meter needs to set them unless the radio has one on it

Yeah. I have a small cb im about to install, and I know about just as much as you do.

But I do know you need and SWR meter (not expensive) to tune it. How to tune it? Gotta ask someone else, because I have no idea.

Where did you mount your cb at in your cab? I have an 06 as well.

can you get signal from any of the weather stations?

if you can't then you should double check the connections on the coax cable both at the CB and at the antenna mount.

you need to tune the antenna!! if you have a high SWR reading you can potentialy kill the CB real quick if you key the mic.

here is everything you need to know about SWR http://www.firestik.com/Meas-SWR.htm

I'm afraid there might be one of five or six things wrong.

It's not rocket science, but the things are finicky and the install has to be done right.

Net monkey has a good install thread.

    Google troubleshooting CB radios.

Sorry, I can't walk thru a detailed troubleshooting just now.

@forster46 i mounted it on the side of the center console on the drivers side basically right next to my right knee.....it fits there well and does not get in the way and looks pretty nice.....i taped the power wire from behind my head unit and ran it down thru a hole with a wire hanger so it came out under the steering wheel. overall the whole mount looks good and was quite easy.

maybe you can find a CB/radio shop in your area and have them tune it for you. shouldn't cost more then 20-25 bucks at the most.

i blew my first CB radio because i had no idea what the fuck i was doing, i had everything wrong and was snickered at by the CB guy who made everything better. now, im pretty much the self proclaimed radio expert and can do everything. i even have a amateur radio license for HAM radios :p
