Toyota Plan A rust protection paint sealer

Just got my 2012 on the way and so far 3 dealers have mentioned this Toyota option without much detail. It's called Plan A and it is supposed to prevent rust of the fram and seal the paint so it always looks glossy and waxed. They also spray the inside of the cab to protect the interior from stains and any water. The last dealer told me it costs around $1300. After talking to him he would give it to me for $900 but I'm not sure it is worth it. Has anybody ever heard or used this product? Is it worth the cost? The dealer I'm bying my truck from told me he brought in hi Durango to have that sprayed too because it works so well. I don't know, I didn't see the Durango.

The only benefit paint sealer and upholstery protection packages provide is to the dealers bottom line.

 

Step away from the stealership! Do it yourself... a can of scotch guard for the fabric and a can of fluid film for the frame.

 

These packages usually consist of products that are available at your local automotive store. I have seen first hand the Paint Protection (coat of wax) and fabric protector (a can of Scotchguard). The undercoating on the frame is usually the black rubberized asphalt variety which tends to peal after time, allowing moisture underneath to rot the frame from the inside out.

Many dealerships outsource these treatments to independent garages in their community, paying them $200 - 400 dollars with the salesman pocketing the rest as a bonus. Now you know why the salesman would drop $400 without you even asking - he still stands to gain.

 

I think when you see the salesman's pupils turn into dollar signs it's a good indicator you're getting screwed over. Take a step back and look at what hes offering you. $1300 even $900 is a lot of money to throw at someone who doesnt even fully explain what you're getting.

 

Lol from experience I can tell you that this at most costs them $300. Honestly, it probably only costs them maybe $100, but just trying to play worst case scenario. Sure, I would have them do it. But not for $900. lol

 

Complete rip-off. You can get all the materials yourself for $50 and do it all in a couple hours. Be careful of a salesman pushing this type of stuff. It should make you question everything else they try to sell you. The $2,000 extended warranty you can get for $900 bucks, the maintenance plan, etc. etc.

people always wonder how a dealer sells stuff "under invoice", well this is how they make it up and then some. While you're at it ask them about the window etching!

 

I really don't intend on spending $900 on this "protection." I'm not that concerned with interior protection because scotch guard is cheap and the 2012 seats are water resistant anyway. I don't understand the "Paint Sealing" angle either...maybe it's like a super wax from the future. Wonder if that is good in any way or just wax from time to time will be the same. My main concern is rust protection. I used to live in California where rust wasn't a big deal, but now I live in Nebraska. The winters are a lot colder and more harsh and they use salt on the roads like it's going out of style. I lived in florida on the beach and feel like there is more salt on the roads and rust and corosion on vehicles than in north Florida. I see other companies offering some rust protectant. Anybody have any suggestions? People say do it your self, okay...can you elaborate? OffroadToy, whats "fluid film?" Thanks for the info guys.
