I have a 98, I tried cragar soft 8's, unique steelies same as the cragar in design, both mickey thompson classic 2's all in a 16x8 and all hit the caliper. Went with procomp alloy black wheels that wheelers used to sell they fit great. Go with the steelies from wheelers.

    ALL OF THEM!...Then some more.
Spacers aren't bad. If properly installed they are completely safe. All you need is ET lugs and you'll be fine.

I ran 1.5'' spacers with 0 problems. Took off the wheels to test the torque and they hadn't budged once. If fact i still have them and am planning on getting Bushwackers so i can put them back on.

My truck has black steelies btw.

I have the Pro Comp Series 98 Soft 8's on my tacoma and they fit just fine with no spacers or rub on the calipers. I believe they have 4.5" of backspace. I bought them used from a guy with new 31x10.5 BFG KM2's on them. I test fit them before the purchase and there was no rub. There is not a lot of clearance between the caliper and the wheel, but enough to not cause any issues yet! Here is a pic from the day I put the new wheel/tires on.
