Denso Spark Plugs and the Tacoma

My wife drive a Honda CR-Z and I drive a 2011 DC OR Tacoma so I need to keep up to speed on both vehicles, One of the CR-Z forums has a post regarding Denso Iridium IK22 spark plugs improving performance.

The CR-Z forum posted the following:

Additionally, forum members seems to be backing up those claims.

Since a good number of Tacomas seem to have three NKG and three Denso plugs I wondered if Denso had Iridium series for the Tacomas.

I went to the Denso site and sure enough the Denso has Iridium series for up to the 2010 listed; the IKH20 being listed for the 2010 v6 Tacoma.

Anyone have experience with there particular spark plugs, good or bad?

I believe the iridium plugs are on the 4 banger. No benefit to using them on a V6.

 

I know they put them in as part of the TRD Supercharger kit for the V6.

Theoretically Iridium plugs should be cheaper then Platinum based on the selling price per ounce for the metals.. I find it interesting therefore that they charge more for the Iridium plugs.

Anyway, both Platinum and Iridium plugs should last for 100,000 miles. Iridium has a much higher melting point then Platinum and so will survive better in high heat / high performance engine setups.

Bottom line. It wouldn't hurt to run Iridium plugs.. but I don't see where you'd get any benefit under normal engine conditions.

 

Platinum 3200 degrees to melt
Iridium 4400 degrees to melt

It might cost less but is a lot tougher to work with.
