Regearing for 35s/37s...

I believe i am running 4.10s in my 98 3.4L 5spd right now, any suggestions on gearing for 35" or 37" tires in the future? This is also my daily driver so I need to maintain Freeway speeds, and with 154k miles i dont want to rev TOO high (5200 RPM MAX?) Should I go to 4.56 or 4.88 (or other)?

any input?

I don't know what gears I had in my 05 4.0L 6 Spd but the 35's were too much for it and 6th gear was worthless.

Also would it be of more benefit or cheaper to Regear for larger tires or do some performance upgrades like headers?

 

in my 06 im running 35s and 4.88s. at around 70mph im near 3000 rpms. hopefully that gives you a little bit of perspective

 

if you could fit 37's do you feel the 4.88s would be fine? are the 4.88s overkill for 35s?
do you top out at 70MPH or thats the speed limit there?

 

thats the speed limit, well 65.
even up to 80-85 its around 3500.
i think its a bit much for the 35s.
if i could re-do it i would go 4.56
35s=4.56s
37s=4.88s

 

i have 4.88's and 35s and wish i geared lower 4.88's is normal ride for me though, i want more power

It tells you the current gear ratio based on your VIN. I have a 12 DCSB TRD Off Road and that website tells me that I have a 4.56 gear ratio. I put a three inch lift on it and 285/75/16 tires on it and by doing the math, I should get 4.88 gears to maintain the power I used to have.
(Old tires were 30.6" Diameter, new are 32.8" diameter = roughly 7% increase in circumference => gear ratio goes up by 7% to maintain power and speedometer readings. 4.56 X 1.07 = 4.89, which is close to 4.88)
Maybe. That's all theoretical, I think. It might be different when you apply it, but I don't know cause I haven't regeared my truck.
