Like many people said, it seems like they are casing your house and learning your routine. Motion activated hunting cameras are relatively cheap and patrol checks by your local PD are free. The thing about the camera is the image is stored in them, so if they notice the camera and can get to it, they could destroy it and your evidence. Placement is key. Sounds like the neighbor is a good resource too. Maybe she can get a tag off their vehicle. Do you have any men at home during the day in your neighborhood? You could ask them to approach these people if they see them, in a polite, nonchalant way. Letting your dog roam the house would be a good deterrent too, as well as the ADT sticker mentioned above. If you can mix up your routine, do that too. Also consider if you have told anyone you don't completely know or trust about anything valuable in your home. It seems like perps in B&E's have sometimes been in the house before on friendly terms, or know what they are there for. I personally believe in the gadston flag and signs that say things like "This house protected by Glock security, Inc" and stuff like that. Also research your laws about what actions you can take if someone enters your house. In Maryland, you have the duty to retreat and are not supposed to act on them unless they seek you out and you feel that your life is threatened. In castle doctrine states like PA, if they forcibly enter the house, the law assumes are willing to do you harm, so it's on. I doubt the peoples republic of california is a castle doctrine state.

Dude, don't rely on anyone or anything to keep yourself safe. if you do then chances are you will be disappointed. Sounds like these boys are begging to die. The odds of them returning to your house is very high. You need to buy a gun. today!!! and learn to use it and use it well. Screw the material possessions. You talking about you life here. These guy won't stop until 1) Someone kills them 2) they kill someone. I rather option1

Go to home depot and pick up a few layers of lanex sheating and glue them to the glass door. If they try to break it it will just crack and they wont be able to get through. Bonus: better insulative properties too.

Why did your neighbor not call the police?
Sorry if this is a repeat question but 10 pages were too many to read.
I would have a serious sit down discussion with her so she KNOWS that she MUST call the police next time it happens....[find out why she didn't in the first place].

security alarm system with monitoring...$115 a month. Double check all windows, put dowels in them, get a safe (put valuables in it), set up security camera in driveway to catch plates, fix gate, get renters/home insurance, and let pit roam

thats about it...other than getting someone to stay at your house 24hrs... notify police of suspicious activity, but its bakersfield so the cops have more pressing matters.

I mean you can move your valuable stuff to a storage unit for a few weeks and see what happens. But honestly, gather all your indentity documents and put them in a safe... or another safe location.

As much as I agree with this, it is a dangerous way of thinking in the modern world, especially in states like MD or CA where there is no castle doctrine. Kill someone in your house in the wrong state and the defense will convince the jury the perp was stealing to feed his family, and you killed an innocent person and are a danger to society that will only continue killing unless you are locked up for a long time.

If you need to defend yourself in any state, you need to articulate in court that 1) You thought they had a weapon and 2) You were in fear for your life. Those are not a guarantee to stay out of hot water, but they are the basic points to cover.

And start the paper trail with the police. This is VERY important. Even if you get second hand information from the neighbors that didn't call the police, call them whenever the neighbors tell you something so they can take a report. You need that paper trail to fall back on. It proves there is a problem going on in case you have to defend yourself.

I'm well aware of this. And eventhough I live in a state that does have the Castle Doctrine, I must say I don't trust it for a second.

also, if you get a safe you need to make sure it is bolted down securely. Otherwise they will just steal the entire safe. I have mine in the garage with 4 large bolts mounted into the garage floor.

I don't agree with this, most thieves want an easy grab. If they wanted to kill someone they wouldn't be scouting his house when he's not home, they'd barge in on him when he was sleeping. They're cowards and don't want to work so they steal while others are at their job.

Just be safe and smart OP.

All good information here. I doubt these guys are going to take the time to make a connection, but if you've got a modded tacoma or a TacomaWorld sticker they may check you out on here. Shit they could be reading this thread right now.

That's just another thing to consider.

I know it's a long shot, but it is something to consider, at least for future reference.

In that case they should know that OP decided against all our suggestions and decided that he would hire a huge mamma jamma named Bubba. Bubba has a hardon for butsecksing criminals and was hired to sit at OP's house all day.
