2012 Audio

Love my new 2012 access cab 4x4 truck! Really cant wait to upgrade stereo system... Will be gathering info but most likely keeping the head unit- adding sound processor- amp and 6 real speakers!

I have the standard system in my DC TRD with XM and Bluetooth, seems to be okay for my needs.

 

I'm going to be installing a new system with new HU and 10" sub in my 2012 AC once everything arrives in the mail. Not really sure how to replace the two speakers in the roof, seems like they're gonna be a PITA. I'm gonna run stock speakers and just replace them when they blow.

 

I recently added a new Pioneer HU with full steering wheel controls (radio & BT), Pioneer Amp, and Pioneer 10" sub to my '12 DC, and running stock speakers. Sounds decent, will sound better with aftermarket speakers/tweeters, but as silk12taco said not until they blow.

I think you did it backwards. The stock speakers are the worst part of the factory audio system. The response from those poor excuses for cost cutting is terrible. Just saying that after I replaced the speakers, I scrapped plans for upgrading the rest, as it sounded pretty good. But putting in a nice high end HU and running the stockers, you're not getting your moneys worth at all.

 

^^ i did this. added some three way component speakers to the front in 6x9 form, and it sounds great. but i still want a small pancake sub for some down low sound

I agree with you about the stock speakers being the worst; however, the stock radio had to go in my opinion. Hated it's slow response, and user controls with my iPod/iPhone. So I got a good head unit, and figured since I had the dash apart that I would go ahead and install an amp and sub. Speakers will come soon enough. Just don't like doing things twice if I can absolutely avoid it.

The stock radio is a Pioneer AVIC-X930BT with SWI-PS steering wheel control version 1.68 with BT controls. This HU has not only lived up to me needs so far it has surpassed them. I also did the video bypass, and have not hooked up the speed sensor wire yet and may not.

Pioneer TS-SW2501S4 mounted in custom box (followed directions from another member). Not carpeted yet as local radio shop did not have any carpet. Will be carpeting soon. Had to no only remove storage box, but rear seat plastic as well.


Doesn't look like a professional install as of yet, but hopefully as finish tying loose ends it will look much better. Also will be replacing stock speakers once I get some free time, and little warmer weather.

 

I like where you mounted your Amp remote knob, I think I'm gonna mount mine there too

 

Yes, I ultimately decided here. I thought about the tray to the right of the steering wheel; however, I wanted a place where it was hidden yet easily accessible. Thought about the center console, but I did not want to have to open the lid each time I wanted to adjust the gain. Considering I listen from everything from country to rock to podcasts I wanted a location that I could adjust with little ease. Chose here and I absolutely love the location. Hidden and easily adjusted.

 

How easy is it to remove that tray from the dash and install it?

 

It is easy there are 2 tabs that are on each side. Bend those inwards and pop it out by pulling forward. It also has 2 retainers at the bottom, but these just like the glove box pop right out.

Installed my Alpine iDA-x305SBT tonight, took about 3 hours because this was the first time I've installed a HU. Ran iPod cable to glove box, I think it turned out perfect.

Same HU im running. I luv it...good choice!!!

 

I installed mine in a blank switch under the AC. Drilled a hole in the blank switch plate, ran the knob shaft through the hole and put knob back on. Looks totally stock. Hard to see though... have to adjust by feel.

 

Well.... my Sundown SA-10 sub does not fit in my supercrewsound box, not enough mounting depth. The box is suppose to have 6.5" and the sub needs 6"... Tomorrow going to try and find a spacer for the sub so it will fit. Here's a shot of my Sundown SAZ-1000D amp tucked under the driver seat
