Which is most prone to break? (gen 2)

I have a Gen 2 TRD access cab, and I am looking at skidplates. My options are gas tank, e locker, or tranny case. There's also an exaust manifold that hangs too low for comfort IMO. Thoughts?

The front IFS skid is what I personally went with first, assuming you already don't have an aftermarket one. And it is used the most.

Some good brands are Armor Tech Offroad and Budbuilt

 

I went with the E-locker guard because I just couldn't see myself coughing up $500-$600 for a new motor. I dont do any hardcore wheeling just more roads with branches and logs that could kick up and damage the motor. I'd rather be safe than sorry.

If you dont wheel hard in the rocks then I dont really see a reason for aftermarket skids. Some people tat i wheel with still run stock skidplates in the crazy rock sections and they havent had problems. I would get a mid travel kit and some tires if you will be on fire roads etc.. How hard do you plan on wheeling and in what terrain?

 

After i trimmed the front mud flaps I have not had any problem. The only scratch i have is on the black rear bumper (easy to fix with rustoleum) that i managed turning around on a real narrow trail that I could not complete.

I tend to be pretty careful and don't want to mess up my truck.

 

I plan on offroading around here(new england) quite a bit. So none of those spots are prone to getting hit? also how well does the stock skid hold up?

 

What he said^ Stock skids will hold up fine till u really smash them a couple times. Not needed if you dont beat on it. The elocker is really tough to hit btw IF i had to pick for your application i would go with the front. Bombing through snowfilled parking lots when you nail the rock on the edge you didnt see

 

Sliders will do better for you than a skid assuming your dont already have them. Whats nice about the skids is you will know when they arn't worth running anymore.

 

3 weekends ago I cost myself $600 (rental car/hotel/new tank/etc.). I punctured my gas tank with a long piece of angle-iron that was sticking up at a low angle out of the ground. I was driving up a dry wash. Not really wheeling...just a fluke.

My damaged tank...grey is patch that didn't work for even 5 min.

 

waste of gas!!!?!?
