So today I was driving down the road and some idiot decided too back out of his driveway right onto the road. I hammered on my breaks and slide too a stop about an inch from the guy.

So after I drove away I began too think, I need a grill guard. If I had a grill guard, it wouldn't of mattered if I would have bumped into the guy. My truck would of been protected.

So what kind of grill guard should I get? I'm looking for something like this.

    http://www.autoanything.com/grille-guards/73A4294A0A0.aspx

Are there certain brands that are sturdier then others, that will not rust as easily?
What kind of grill guard do you have? Would it survive if you ran into a tree at 50 km/h?

    There's my truck.

There it is again. It's a little stuck...

This truck is a work truck - not a lot of fancy mod's here, but it's getting the job done!
    IMHO:

Get an offroad bumper from relentless, arb, all pro, trailgear, elite, etc - they are sturdier than the thing you linked too and look way better...

PS - I like the stuck picture - almost to the frame eh?

Thanks for the advice. I'll take at some of those.

About the picture. I had gone quading, and I got the quad stuck. So I figured I'd come pull it out with the Tacoma. I got the Tacoma stuck. So I finally came with a tractor and pulled them both out.

Grill guards are worthless, unless you like pushing around shopping carts in the grocery store parking lot.. :D

They also cause more damage to the vehicle if you ever got in a front-end collision with someone.

Bull bars and brush guards/grill guards are flimsy and wont stand up to a vehicle impact.

They are acutally damage multipliers and will just end up causing more body damage than if it wasn't there.

A replacement offroad bumper (tube or plate) is your only option if you want protection from animal strikes, trail damage, or to reduce damage from a minor accident.

If you still want one try Blackhorseoffroad.com they have some. Grill guards that go over the headlights are illegal here in VA though. not sure if thats a common law or what. I just have to take it off b4 inspection.

just to throw in my .02 cents, i had a 91 toyota pickup 4x4. great truck, i put on a brush guard like the one you linked too. it wasnt made for the pickup so i had my mechanic weld it to the frame... haha...

so long story short, i ended up wrecking the truck, road was slick, road turned, i hit the breaks and the truck slid straight, the truck plowed through a 4x4 mailbox post, took out a small tree, then it fliped over on its side.. the cab ended up bending... but that brush guard took all the impact, was bent to hell, but the bumper, headlights and grill were not damaged. i can say from experience that they will take more than shopping carts.

as much as the heavy duty bumpers look good, they are a bit pricey. the elite bumpers are sick, but i cant afford the $800+ price tag, i can spend the $400 on a nice grill guard. just my opinion.

i have no idea what kind was on it... i had a ford ranger before it with a topper on the back, i didnt like the topper so i traded it in to this topper place for a tri fold tonnoue cover.... then traded in the ranger for the toyota, the tonouee cover didnt fit it, so i took it back to the topper place and traded it for this old chrome brush guard they had sitting around... the headlight guards bolted off, and had the loop that went over the top... so it was 4 pieces.... i have no idea the brand...

For the $400-$500 you are going to end up paying for a grille guard you can get a tube bumper.
