I just picked up my first Tacoma. 2012 TRD OFF Road 4x4 Black. I almost bought a Tacoma in 1996 and since then always regretted not getting it. It was a pain deciding between the Sport and the Off Road but in the end I went with what I believe is the more functional. Looking forward to mods. Have a great weekend!

Welcome to TW. I totally agree with you on your decision to get the Off Road (OR) package. I chose to get the OR too because I felt it was more practical. The salesman told me that people rarely purchase the OR and so I had to back order mine. I think the A-Trac feature is similar to the LSD found on the Sport package, so we have the best of both worlds - a differential locker and LSD (when engaged) to transfer power to the wheels with traction. Have fun!

I went back and forth with the salesman from Servco Leeward for two weeks and was told the TRD Sport 4X4 would be better for me. I told him I really wanted the tow package; he said you can just add it on later. I already knew most of the differences between the Off Road and Sport. I was torn between the locking rear diffs, ATRAC, and what he told me about ride quality being a lot better for with the Sport on the street. I liked the look of the Sport and the functionality of the Off Road. So I decided to order the Sport. The finance manager then gives me an old pamphlet of 2011 accessories with pen and ink markings for price changes. I was like you must be kidding me; no 2012 accessory brochure? Then he said they couldn't install the tow package because it wasn't tested for 2012. I thought this to be odd but because he was nice I gave him the benefit of the doubt added some accessories gave him my deposit and ordered a Magnetic Gray Sport. I waited a week and it was finally in. A few days before I was on TW and read someone going to another Servco to see if the price would be different. Something told me I should do the same just to see how different they were because I was happy with the price. I went to Mapunapuna and within 10 minutes I realized this salesman knew way more about Tacomas then anyone I spoke to at Leeward. He told me they could install the tow package on the Sport and was baffled that Leeward said they couldn't. He also said I would be better off with the factory installed one because of the HD alternator, HD battery, engine oil cooler, and transmission cooler. He also told me the on road ride differences were negligible and I agreed. I canceled the Sport and went with the Off Road! The salesman at Leeward was pissed but hey; you should have known your product and the finance manager should not have gave me bogus information and have a 2012 accessory brochure like Mapunapuna. Sorry so long but I thought I'd share my experience. Aloha!

It was a good thing you went in to the other Servco. You ended up with a nice truck that better suited your needs and had a salesman who knew what he was talking about. Haha, when I got my truck the salesman didn't know what he was talking about either. According to the guy the Taco has rear drum brakes because they "are better for towing", among other stupid claims

Anyways congrats on your new truck!
