You can see (this is a guess since I don't have a 1st gen) if there are any hood grommets on the leading edge of the engine compartment (usually above the headlights or the radiator).

I haven't looked for them on my 07', but most of the vehicles I have owned had these.

They are usually adjustable just by turning them (clockwise lowers, counter raises). This creates pressure for the hood to rest on and prevents it from vibrating (or fluttering).

    I hope this helps.

I did not have this problem on my 04 taco, but I did have a similar problem on an old ford pick-up. I adjusted the "bumpers" as 007 mentioned. Since the "bumpers" are not adjustable and you can't move them up, perhaps you can move the hood latch down? Just thinking outloud.

That would be my next move. If the "bumpers" are not adjustable, maybe the latch is. Out of a final fit of desparation, I would try putting some kind of shim under the "bumpers".

    Good luck!

Well after reading the other responses I would be lead to believe it's on the other end, check the hood where it hinges. Its' a long shot, but maybe it's loose where the supports are, the 'X' shaped metal thingy's that keep the hood stiff. :pccoffee:

My `01 does it too,but not bad enough to bother me.During maint. when I see the bumpers the thought did come to mind about unscrewing them, but havnt ever messed with them. The fluttering is minor usually very windy or passing/being passed by semis.Wife is gone w/truck now or I would go check ...thought they were adjustable.

I just installed a factory hood protector. goes in between the sheet metal and the rubber gasket, along the underside of the front edge of the hood.

I am not saying that is THE answer to your problem, but I noticed my hood was more snug after I installed mine. Plus, it looks great too. Check out my homepage under Tacoma > Hood Protector. Also look under z32 > Hood Squeak for a couple of other ideas. Click on my screen name above.

Are you sure your bumper stops at the front corners under the hood are not adjustable? They should just turn with your fingers and give you some ability to snug the hood up.

mine are threaded and change heights. that is typical for other cars, too, so maybe yours are stripped. I would buy some new ones from the dealer and try that.
