Well my searched for this mod came up with nothing so if this has been posted I'm sorry and this is my first write-up so bear with me.

Are you tired of hearing that annoying chime every time you have your keys in your ignition while your door is open? Well today I'm gonna show you how to cut it off.

    Tools Required:
10mm socket and ratchet with extension
    Phillips head screw driver

    Step 1.

Remove the four 10mm bolts (red circles) and the Phillips head (red box) screw on the panel below the steering wheel
    2012-01-29141337_00799580e1bb76f90c7ba98af5e9673edc7b7f33.jpg

The panel will pop off now, I found it to be easier to just leave the hood latch cable hooked up, let the panel rest on the floor

    2012-01-29141522_2e54efd8a9872918d95327872b2dc9151c8dbeee.jpg

    Step 2:
Locate the two plus like the ones in the picture below (Note: the plugs may be blue)

    2012-01-29141556-1_e5ff378758d289e19d88e71c79a70bf01ce0e760.jpg

    Step 3:
Unplug the the smallest of the of the two plugs and that's it no more chime

    2012-01-29141620_0a88567a4cdc236beaf29cab750b4c59a9f5dac0.jpg

Reassemble the panel and you're done :D

    Thanks for looking

Nice writeup but, during a previous dicussion on this topic, there was some talk of unplugging that connector disabling more than just the buzzer. I take it that's not been your experience?

That looks like an awful lot of wires to be just the door chime. Dome light still work?

What else would it do away with? The 4x4 indicators? (Don't 4x4's have these?)

On my old 2004 company truck, I unplugged a blue connector with a single wire in it. No more buzzer, no other effects. That was a bare bones basic 2wd, not sure if that makes a difference in why there was only one wire in the connector.

Not trying to spam here, but I'll post because this is recent. I've got a youtube video on 3 different methods for the "Door Chime" for 1st gens.
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u4wq...xt=C3b06dfaUDOEgsToPDskLTGSOBPSra5xcYPvPetGjt

It's kind of crappy so I'll list the basics:
    1) cut door sensor wire and tape (so it never grounds out)
    2) unplug the connector mentioned (mine is blue)
    3) twist off actual physical buzzer

I decided to just rip off the buzzer because from simple circuits the buzzer goes straight to ground, only makes noise when receiving power, and is required to make noise when under power... thus no device can come before/after it because the buzzer "chimes" instead of being "constant on."

Having said this... ripping off the buzzer will make your car unsellable/un-inspectable in the state of MA if they catch you. MA is the only state I could find that requires both a visual and audible warning for the seatbelt system.

I have had 2 state inspections and the rust frame recall in PA at a toyota dealership without the buzzer. Never even mentioned (and I saw them test the gas tank seals / prop shaft / emissions / etc).

Whatever you decide is up to you. But I honestly don't need a car to beep at me under any circumstance. I always wear a seatbelt while driving & advocate it. But I'll be $%#&ed if my car is going to beep at me for playing the stereo in a parking lot with the door open or beep at me for towing a camry out of a snow bank on a gravel road without my seatbelt. + I have a manual (no park on the shifter). So my car would beep with the engine running in a parking lot in neutral.

I thought there was a thread on this already, but anyhow, doing this mod (unplugging the connector) works great, I did this in my '03 with no problems at all. Just don't forget to remove your keys before exiting your truck! Did this a few times and now have a spare key in my wallet for back up....

If you wanna just unplug wire, JUST USE NEEDLE NOSE!!!

You don't need to remove dash!!!

Lie on your back with Needle Nose pliers, don't wear a hat. It will be tight and uncomfortable, but I just removed mine in 5 seconds. It's close to the plastic dash part, near e break lever.

    NEEDLE KNOWS!
