This is becoming big in my neck of the woods. I know of 3 people this has happened to in just the last two weeks. I'm trying to be pro-active here and prevent mine from disappearing, as they are too easy to access on these trucks. I'm debating on forming a steel plate to run from one frame rail to the other covering both the cats as well as the oil pan (this would ofcourse be removable with torx bits), but before i go there i would like to know if there is someone out there already that is producing skid plates in the aftermarket scene that may accomplish the same thing? My truck is a prerunner.

    Thanks!

Get a skid plate for the bottom of your truck.. Protects the cat's and also is useful for other reasons :)

The cable goes around a crossmember. Ever try to cut aircraft cable with a sawzall?

this is what i'm looking for. I just havent seen one yet that covers that area. I have seen a tranny plate, front bumper plate, transfer case palte and rear diff plate, but not one specifically for the oil pan region.

the cable thing is an issue for me, the one's that i know of were done with a saw. I did read some post on the net about ones in california taking the time to wrench them off, I'm not a cat theif, but if i were i would not be spending that kind of time underneath a vehicle. Of course if you brought a wrench set you could unbolt the cable cover too, at least it appears that way from the pics.

you'd have to buy 2 of them correct? one for each side? If so I guess $200 if better than new cats.

Good point, I would just be concerned they wouldn't try to cut the cable until after they cut off the cats. Cats wouldnt be much good any more after dangling from the cross member bouncing down the road all the way to the muffler shop:)

if anyone reading this thread has pics of the Cat Lock installed on their Tacoma, please post. I've seen a thread of the ******** on a Tacoma. It seems waayy bulky with cables everywhere (look it up). But the Cat Lock looks a little more simple and clean.

Why wouldn't you pass? Because the rears would be missing?

That cat loc is not going to stop a thief with a sawzall. It will what add an extra 10 seconds to cutting it out. Skid plate would be the way to go.

Buy the URD O2 Sim and buy some skids. They won't notice a difference.

He won't need the sim. The rears aren't monitored by the ECU. Only the fronts are.

That cable only looks to be maybe 3/8". You could cut through the cable with a sawzall, if your could hold the cable still. That would be the hard part.

But I would just cut through those eye bolts attaching the cable to the device, that wouldnt be hard to do.

EDIT: Cordless 4" angle grinder would make quick work of this as well.
