I have a topper {weight}, 250lbs of sandbags, 30" dynapro AT'ms. No Problems with snow at all. Also carry tire chains, good tow strap, and snow shovel just in case, 2wd is fine.

Do every thing slow and deliberate no fast starts no hard breaking and no fast turns stay way behind every one in case they do some thing stupid. OH yeah look out for 4X4's that think it's summer time. Thiner tires are better then fat ones in the snow buy tires that have the little picture of a mountain on them no all seasons no mountain no go. I have a 4X4 but I live in mountain snow country and I still follow all the rules of winter travel 2 WHD will get you going but don't push it unless you have good towing insurance.

I have a 2wd regular cab here in Missouri. The little Tacoma seems better on snow / ice than my previous truck, a 2wd Chevy Silverado. I have 2 60lb sand backs between the bed extender and the tailgate. I drive around with those in the back all winter and add some concrete if I expect bad weather.

+ 1, finally a 4wd guy with good advice and did not bash. For all those with 2wd, there is an endless amount of excellent advice here to get your truck set-up and get you through the rough stuff. Driving through it is another story but can be done, I do it here in Colorado.

Interesting thread. How about any advice on using the 2WD 2009+ traction control options(ALSD on, locker on, etc)? What did you use or have on/off to get through certain snow/ice situations?

I had a 99 dakota base model 6 cylinder that was half dead and tranny that could barely shift i never had winter tires, or weight in the back. i didn't even have a tailgate on it. It was a little sketchy at times but as long as i didn't drive like i was at daytona i did absolutely fine. Even going up to the cottage pretty well every weekend. long story short take it easy and think further ahead then you normally would you will be fine. :D
