Gun, it shouldn't depreciate much over time and may appreciate, so you can always sell it.

Thanks for all the input guys. If I can find that elusive M1A I'm so gonna get it. But I really don't want to drop 18 benjamins on it. Thats like 180 ten dollar bills.

I got the Marlin 917vs. I love it. I recomend it.

Is it like pretty much 100% gonna have leaks? Or is that not even what you mean? I might be lost...

I don't know if I can afford a boat...

also if any one can find a link to some scope mounts and rings i would appreciate it.

I've heard a little about the Leupold Mark IV. Any other good scopes?

Oh, and being that you're 19 I'd probably put the money in the bank. I'm 19 too and $1000 in the bank would be worth a whole lot more to me than a M1A.

I see what you mean by that. I usually feel the need for more of that.

But the oilfield is nice sometimes...

Also, not saying this is ever gonna happen, but if a huge civil war just decides to break out in my neighborhood, i'd rather have that M1A than money in the bank. :p lol

(I sure hope that didn't make me sound like a douche...)

What is it that you like about the M1A that made you decide on it?

If I were to spend ~$1000 on a rifle, I'd LOVE to get a Garand.

I don't know really. I guess its just because the Garand just makes it sound old to me? Know what I mean? And the M1A just sounds... newer???

Wow, that was a bad reason... :(

Those sure are not easy to come by, and one in good condition with any kind of history behind it will probably cost you a whole lot more. They are the epitome of Springfield's though.
