It has plenty enough power. Pedal is perfect. If you want an extremely sensitive pedal, drive the 5.7 tundra. << tundra is TOO sensitive. My dads is hard to control at times if you hit bumps.

Point being: The power is there when you need it. The first response made an excellent point about pedal travel not relating to engine power.

The Taco's HP and TQ curves actually peak earlier in the rev range compared to most of its competition. The truck also sits higher than most of its competition; I'm wondering if that creates an optical effect that makes people think it's slower than it is.

I don't know I spanked a full size Chevy the other day with mine. If you want the power towing you have got to crank it, hard on the mileage but it will pull fine.

I actually like the Tacoma accelerator better. Easier to feather it and pull off the line slowly like a normal human being, not blast out of the hole like some douche that thinks he needs to get to the next stop light 3 seconds before you do. Wife's Camry is a sensitive pedal, as are most cars I've driven. It's probably better to have a slower reacting pedal when you're towing anyway, you don't want the truck trying to lurch forward with 4000lbs of extra resistance behind it.

Also seems to be some confusion. Some people are talking about the acceleration in general about the truck, where OP I believe is talking about the pedal and how much power is applied through the pedal range.

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Hell my 2.7 gets up and goes when I want it to, 4th gear it passes big rigs like nothing, running 91 octane gas though, that really wakes up the 4 banger! If you don't like the current power out of the 4.0, upgrade to the TRD supercharger and your problem will be fixed, but like the others said, the Tacoma is not a race car by any means.

Tacoma accelerator is made just like Land Cruiser accelerator. Its hard to press for offroading purpose. You dont want to be bumping that thing going over terrain.

Its not a Civic its offroad truck. Ah mall crawler crowd

Agreed. My dad had a Wrangler X that had a CRAZY sensitive pedal. I drove it for a summer when i was up in Connecticut doing an internship and it took me practically all summer to get used to it. It wasn't a fast vehicle (by any stretch of the imagination) but the accelerator was really touchy.

i'm not taking anything away from the tacoma because i think they are definitely the best trucks, but i watched a video/ read an article on the midsize pickup reviews and remember one of them saying that the colorado and frontier were faster (0-60 times on the track). Here is the video and make sure you think before you post next time as well...

ok, i got my facts all messed up...the tacoma is not the "weakest" engine in its class and it's not the strongest, but that depends what you are judging power/strength on. HP? towing capacity? 0-60 times? regardless, i love these trucks and could not be happier at this point.

One thing I do like about this truck is it drives very much like a truck. Starts slow, turns wide, and when you coast the engine braking hits noticeably. Feels good man.

True that. Although I must admit the supercharged tacomas have some balls!!!!

I drove a Mazda Millenia before. Now I drive the Taco and a Subaru Impreza. Pedal feel amongst all three aren't that different (which says a lot for the Taco's refinement). While on vacation I had a rental Wrangler with the old 3.8L. Now that was a pig! Pedal was really stiff, and I had to floor it to pass. If you think the Taco is slow, try the other pickups like the Ranger or Dakota.
