So, it seems that an air bag system is the way I should go, as far as my usage. Hell, maybe I'll just do all three, just for giggles (shocks, AAL, and bags) and I won't have to touch the rear end for another 10 years :)

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but after receiving the Ride-Rite kit the other day, I realized that it did NOT come with a relay and fuse for the compressor. Is there some generic relay/fuse combo that I need to get to plug into the fuse box, or do I need to go to a dealer and get a general purpose relay?

I guess I assumed that the appropriate parts would be included (and you know what happens when we assume...)

Thanks for any input, as usual!

I do not believe that you need a compressor with Firestone air bags. I have seen Toys with bags that just have an inflator valve (just like on a tire) that mounts back by the hitch. You only need about 2-5lbs. of air.

I opted for the compressor setup, so I can adjust on the fly (versus only before I leave, or scouring the trails for an air compressor). In the end, I did find (after buying a relay and fuse block) that the parts WERE included, but were in a second box that arrived.

In any case, the install went well, and although I had a problem with a leak, I ended up using a spare QD with a tee fitting (both of which came in the package) and the problem was solved. How a T/QD combo didn't leak, but the standard barbed fitting did, is beyond me.

The only negative I have with the setup is that, even with the minimum 5 psi that Firestone tells you to ride with, the setup is pretty stiff. Every other day or so, I have to put the cover back on the cubby that houses the gauge and switch, since the bumps in the road rattle it loose and it ends up floating around the bed.

What kit did you get? And do you mean that the compressor etc comes with the kit?

The compressor didn't come with the kit.. I ordered the Firestone 2407Pre bag kit (which is supposed to be remote filled with a valve mounted in the bumper or similar) and the 2097 compressor kit.
I have pics of the finished install if you are interested.. Turned out nicely.

Well, after looking at the pics, it seems I only saved 5 of the finished installation. They aren't super helpful, but do show how low-key the install is.
