02 Engine Knock

    Just turned 116K and started hearing engine knock on cool mornings at low RPM's sound quickly ends upond short warm up - repair guy says "its a rod" and need to rebuild or replace engine - thoughts?

    Butch, it sounds like it could be your oil pump. Don't go for the rebuild yet. If your oil pump is failing, your oil pressure will be low on starting, therefore the knock. I'll usually hear a knock after I've changed the oil because it needs a second or two to get the oil moving through the engine and the pressure has to increase. Get your oil pump checked first. If it was a rod, it would continue after the warm up. My $0.02 worth. HTH.
