The Canadian Gun Registry, originally estimated to cost a few million dollars ended up costing BILLIONS. A complete failure. So bad that colleges use it an an example of what NOT to do in business. Somebody got rich off this and it wasn't the Canadian citizens.

The result, violent crime rates rise anyway, no effect whatsoever.

Who knew that criminals wouldn't register their guns? Who saw that coming?

Doesn't matter. It's made to narrow down the results of weapons used in violent crimes.

But yes, it was a complete fuster cluck in terms of staying on budget.

It's kind of messed up here in the U.S. (FLORIDA) I can go to a "Store" and purchase a firearm and have to go through a background check to make sure I an not KRAZY, but as long as I buy from my friend or neighbor I am good to go. P.S. I am good to go, my aluminum foil hat and burried munitions are also for sale.

a good law??? really??? ask the aussies how registration worked out for their handguns... through the course of history, registration leads to confiscation...

..which is all the better that canada is actually reversing the rachet! ..and i'm very happy for you all!

the reason for the 4473 is because of the brady law... private sales do not require this, but you still need to check the buyer's id and make an attempt to see if they are prohibited from possession (a felon, domestic violence conviction, etc..)...

if the antis could, they'd require a 4473 (or worse) for you to "gift" an heirloom to a family member...

I don't tell you how to run your country, I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell us how to run yours. Did I say it was a perfect law with no flaws? No.

Second Australia is a vastly different country from Canada.

sure! ... when you hear the "gun show loophole" drumbeat, ..that's what they are trying to do... i.e. they don't want you passing your great grandad's winchester 93 onto the next generation, unless you "pay up" and go through the 4473 at a licensed FFL..

Sorry, you're correct. I read your post wrong.

    My apologies.

Anyways, don't be so happy for us. Instead our government thinks it's an awesome idea to purchase a bunch of F35 fighters off you guys.

Oh...Engines are extra. And our defense budget could feed a baby raccoon for a week.
