Transfering Pistol Registration

What do you need to do to transfer ownership of a pistol?

 

I think it depends on the state. In Michigan There is an 8x11 sheet of paper quartered off. Each quarter has the gun make, model, registration number, purchaser name, sellers name, and so on. Rip up the quarters and buy keeps one, seller keeps one and 2 go to the County.

But again, that's Michigan, and it used to be harder to do here.

 

Check with local state laws first. Some states you can sale a handgun to a person in your state who is over 21 with just a bill of sale. If going over state lines you must use a FFL.

If in doubt use a FFL (firearms dealer) usually charge you each $20 for the transaction.

for one, ..i believe it has to be someone in your state of residence.. verify w/ some form of ID (driver license, etc.) and two, you can't knowingly give to a "prohibited" person (underage, felon, DV, etc..). ask them, and if there's something suspicious about them or their response, walk away from the deal... as for "registration", ..most states have no "registration" per se, ..only the communist ones do..

you're in MO, so i'd doubt there's "registration", but you should check your state law.. always check the law, ...don't rely solely what people say on a forum..

 

MO does not have registration of firearms. You are good to sell privately in MO to anyone 18 years of age and above and anyone under 18 must be with a guardians permission. They must not be intoxicated, and must, as far as you know, be allowed to purchase a weapon. you do not need to go through an FFL if the purchaser is a resident of MO, however if they are not, you're better off doing so. Assume buyer is a resident of MO, have them sign a Bill Of Sale with something along the lines of the following:

Have them sign it! Copy down their drivers license number and you should be good to go. It would be very hard for them to prove you knowingly (key word) made an illegal sell.
