i have a 3.4L 04 and when i bought it there was no problem (cel) with the crappy borla exhaust but I had a magnaflow 15811 put on there (catback) and right before my big service (re-do a lot and some extra 100k) the CEL came on. the service guy said cel was from catalytic converter. the exhaust was rubbing on the frame then too (fixed). they re-set and said lets see what happens. haven't run the CEL yet but assume it is cat related again. any ideas on when/why? i did alot of highway driving yesterday and it came on at end of day.

You need the codes to tell you what to start with. If the downstream O2 sensor is the code, either the sensor is bad, or your cat is going bad.

Maybe it was damaged when they put the exhaust on. I've quite a few stories of techs taking their anger out on rusty old bolts and nuts. Maybe when they put the air ratchet it shook something loose on the inside of the converter? Just a thought.

fixed with off the shelf california approved stuff, and it sounds awful. saw magnaflow at 4x4 fest today (what a debacle that show is, no one can sell there) and they said they don't do my truck? so what cat do I buy now, this thing is like a tin can, well not really but it sucks.

Magnaflow doesn't make an exact fit cat...so just get a weld in from magna.

    Also, check out LCEperformance.com

And If you get a magna or another performance cat...you will still have a CEL because of the increased flow of exhaust will tell the downstream censor that the cat isn't working right.

This then will need to be fixed with a URD O2 sim if the CEL bothers you.
