SW MP 40 vs. Sig 226 40

Currently, I have an Springfield XDM 9 Compact and a XD Sub-Compact 40. Both great guns. However, I am looking to purchase a full size and am at a stand still between the MP and the Sig. Both are great guns and feel right in my hand. Grant it, the MP is 300-400 cheaper than the Sig 226.

Just looking for general thoughts and insight on the two

 

P226 all day... I have literally had fewer than 5 malfunctions in thousands of rounds over a period of10 years. Sigs are amazing. My buddy is getting an MP... I dont see the draw. Well he has little girly hands, maybe thats it. Make sure you get the short reset DA/SA if you get the Sig, not the DAK or traditional DA/SA.

 

I have a Sig 226 .40 in all stainless and have never had a malfunction, although I haven't put many rounds through it either, about 200 maybe. I haven't cleaned it yet either. trying to see how it holds up dirty.

 

considering you are accustomed to the XDs i'd mention that the M&P will have a familiar operation to you.. this may be a good thing if you are talking carry gun here, as you wouldn't have to learn the nuances w/ safety/decocker and a hammer...

I've got both a sig P220 and P226 elite dark models, along with a M&P9, and a M&P9C

I love my sigs, but when it comes down to brass tax, neither really has a steep advantage over the other.

Sure i feel more tacticool with my Sig's with cans attached, but weight wise, my M&P's are lighter.

My dad loves his 220 SAS carry model, but i'm not thick enough to conceal that large of a hangun. My M&P9C does nicely.

However, for pure shits and grins shooting, i feel comfortable with either model. I feel more natural with the M&P than i do my sig.

Comparing them is like comparing Mac to PC.

The M&P is stupid-proof, reliable, sleek and has one mode of operation... FIRE.
The Sig is extremely nice, with extra features that come in handy, if you *honestly* need them.

 

Well, Sunday I went and checked out both. The sig didn't feel like I thought It would in my hands (have smaller hands). I really intended on getting the sig, but after discovering it didnt fit me well, I was somewhat excited given the $850 price tag. Then came the MP 40 Full Size. Really liked the feel of the gun and felt well balanced, and a price tag of $460 is hard to beat. However, after surveying all the guns in the store, I took a look at a Glock 23. Fit me better than both the sig and mp. Thus, I ended up going with the Glock. Now I can rock out with my glock out (or so I wish lol). My next purchase, however, will be a MP, as I did like it.
