I don't think the controller matters. It's the two plug adapter that makes the controller vehicle specific. Toyotas use the same plug style across the model lineup.

Thanks - but is the plug that is included with the Toyota specific model the same as the plug that Toyota provides with the tow package already? I guess that's what I'm confused about. I have the plug from Toyota - so not sure if that means I only need the controller.

If youre talking about the plug with the pigtail that comes with the tow package - that will plug directly into the wiring harness but you'll still need to wire that to your controller. Not a difficult task, but Tekonsha sells a Toyota specific "plug and play" connector with the connector on one end for the factory wiring harness plug and the plug for Tekonsha controller on the other end. Would assume this will work with any Toyota & Tekonsha combination. FWIW - I'm not familiar with the "primus" model controller but I wouldn't spring for the extra $$ just for the latest & greatest. I have the Tekonsha P2 and it works like a champ.

Thanks! I think that's what I needed to know. So basically the Toyota specific unit comes with a plug that I use instead of the one that came with my truck, which makes it an easier plug n play option. What confused me was the price difference between the two on Amazon. The one with the plug is $114, where the one without is $78. They sell the plug separately for $11. So I can buy the two separately and save $25 - which didn't make sense, but that's what I'll do......
