A new special edition version of Toyota's facelifted 2012 Tacoma pickup truck series was revealed in pre-production form at the State Fair of Texas today. Said to be inspired by the Japanese firm's Baja racing heritage, the Tacoma TRD T|X Baja edition will be available to the public starting from late spring 2012.
The special edition is equipped with the standard 4.0-liter V6 engine matched to either a six-speed manual gearbox or a five-speed automatic transmission.

Aimed at truck owners who spend a lot of time off-road, the T|X Baja Series brings changes to the suspension.

More specifically, the front suspension has been lifted 1.5-inches, allowing an additional one inch of wheel travel provided by TRD coil springs and 60-millimeter Bilstein race shocks, while at the rear, the limit edition gains 50-millimeter Bilstein race shocks with a remote reservoir and 1.5-inch increase in wheel travel.

The pickup truck rides on new bead-lock style TRD wheels in an exclusive gun-metal finish shod in BF Goodrich T/A KO tires (LT265/70R16).

Other upgrades include the TRD Cat-back Exhaust system, unique Baja Series graphics and mud flaps for all four wheels.

Toyota says the T|X Baja Series is currently undergoing final testing for application on both the Tacoma Access and Double Cab 4x4 models equipped with the TRD Off-Road Package.

More details are to be released closer to the launch date.

    Price range mid 30's

good idea for those who want to buy a modified truck and have the money to get it straight from the factory. Those who are afraid, for one reason or another, to do it themselves.

but not really a good idea if youre going to really wheel the piss out of it.

In my opinion, at least they tried to make this one off road worthy. This how the TRD Off Road should have originally been sold, minus the bedside graphics.

More or less agreed. Increased suspension height, halfway respectable tires...would be nice if they dragged that factory slider option over from the FJs as well.

i wonder if TRD will make the BAJA suspension revisions available as a retro-fit for other 2 gens, seems like a "factory type lift"(trd springs,60 mm fronts and 50 mm resi- rears)would be the optimal lift to maintain factory specs(alingment, inner fender clearance, vsc compatibility).i'd like a bit of lift to safely clear a 265-70-17 to replace my 265-65-17...i'd like the tire with the higher sidwall(70 series vs 65 series)currently i'm running procomp 7105(17 x8,4.5 bs,0 offset).my toyota tech told me that with my aftermarket wheel,i would experience rub for sure at "full stuff" and possible rubbing at full turn.with the original tires(265-65-17)and the procomps,my truck is comfortable and tracks straight and sure with no weird alingment issues or balance problems...i retained my factory "trd wheels"(17 x 7.5,5.5bs,30 degree offset)just in case, and i'd hate to go back to them, cause in my opinion they didn't compliment the truck..vendors will sell you anything if you've got the cash, but after the parts and kits are bought and installed, and you have fitment issues(rubbing, vibes, clunking, clanking, vsc going crazy)you could spend a ton of cash to buy those mods you've been drooling over since the day you bought your truck, only to go back to the dealership to have that "junk" taken off and return your rig back to stock...that would suck!from what ive seen, there's money to be made with a "factory type retrofit shock/spring set-up" that would be compatable with all electronic systems and factory ride quality...jus sayin...

What I have to say is a definite bonus is you could lift the rear and still have full factory warranty for the lift up front. Diff bearing? Fix it! CVs? Fix it!
There is alot to be said for a lifted truck from the factory.
