is there a kit to take the old glass headlight assembly and convert it into the composite type you find on later 97's?

Not exactly sure what you mean, but i have a 97 and im pretty sure they are the same as the 96-95.5 style.

Buy yourself a set of these if your looking for a much better headlight that isnt a sealed beam, which you can then make HID.

It seems like I've heard of someone swapping the front end parts for the newer look, I have a 2nd gen so I wasnt really paying attention to the details. I would think it's just a matter of making friends with the dealership parts guys and seeing what's different, then getting the pieces at the junk yard.

If all you want is more light output, the setup you have now is better than the later stuff anyway. Lots of options for high output halogen lights, and I believe you can get HID kits too. If you're interested in the high output halogen setup, I know lots about that, feel free to PM me. If you want more info on HIDs, post that in your title and you should get some help. There's a few members here who seem very knowledgeable on that subject. If it's just about looks, may I suggest you repost this in the 1st gen general forum? There's a better chance of it being seen by someone who knows the answers.
