Hey all, got a bit of a prob at work:

We have these wireless dongles for our projectors (I think they are made by Trulink). If you have ANY Realtek drivers installed (so, in other words, if you have a laptop with a sound card, lol), trying to use the Trulink drivers causes a BSOD.

Anyone recommend a better product? We are on the search. Our current idea is to try connecting over the CAT5.

    I guess I'm missing something...

What does the dongle for the projector do? Does it actually provide wifi to the projector...?

It transmits video wirelessly to an associated box that is connected to the projector

Fancy... I can't imagine the resolution or quality are that great tho.

Sorry, no suggestions there. Wires always work better, and that's what we have @ work :p.

    (For projectors at least...)

Res is fine, but you suffer some on the refresh... I personally haven't used them because the drivers have been busted since I started working here. :p I use the executive conference room where the projector is sitting on the table :D

Yeah, we'd simply do a VGA cable through the ceiling, down the wall and up through the floor... but our floors are concrete. We have the CAT5 already ran, so that's why it's our best option so far. We just wanted to see if there's a wireless option that's a bit cleaner - sales guys hate our cables

Not sure if I was clear - I meant that it's the conference room that our in-house sales guys use. I'm guessing they don't like the wire because it isn't pretty, so instead no one can use the projector at all... unless you have a 5 year old computer or something.

This was a great book, extremely thick, but good.

The beginning of the book emphasizes hands-on experience too, and I agree. Find a neighbor or family friend willing to donate a working old machine to you, and as you go through the book look for what they're talking about, get familiar with all the parts on the inside and how they work.

And I'm sure the guys in the field here can come up with way more tips than me

I've been researching external drives and I was wondering if anybody has used Drobo units before? Are they worth the money?

Drobo's are OK. You should look at Synology boxes as well.

The big rage(and will be for some time) in servers right now is virtualization. I don't necessarily have a book in mind, but start looking at VMware and Citrix as the two biggest players in that market. They do server, desktop, and application virtualization. If i can think of some links to the basics, i'll post them up.
