Fender flare sizes pre-2001 and post 2001

Is it possible to intstall post 2001's fender flares on a pre 2001 box that presently doesn't have fenders flares at all?

I have +2001 flares on my 2000. I like the larger flares compared to the thin ones that came with the truck (stock ones got ripped off ).

There are several open square tabs in the fender that the flares clip into along with 3M tape along the brow of the flare.

Not my truck, but you can see how they're installed..

 

I have a 01 trd and I do not have those clips on the passenger side rear. Has anyone else run into this.

So if If I have a box without those holes, I'll have to drill into my fender to install the clips? The deal is i'm putting on a pre-runner base fleet sizebox on my 2002 trd taco. Just sucks because we have so much salt up here that all those holes may cause me some issues. Guess there is no other way of installing them?

Hickweeler, is there a chance your quarter panel was replaced?

 

Yeah just looked I think the bed side was replaced. The flare has the holes for the clips to snap into. How hard would it to be to figure out were to put the holes for the clips. I would like to make mine right. Also sorry for hijacking this thread.

 

I'd likely just make a template, then mark the spots to cut out/drill. You probably want it snug to not let crap in there. Also apply something to open metal to not let it rust.

Payback for the highjack will be letting me know what works out for ya

No 3 M tape from the factory. Those holes have to be pretty much dead on.

 

I have a few ideas on how I will do it. I will probably wait till this summer to give it a go. But, I will deffinately let you know haw it goes.

 

Touch up the bare metal when you cut the holes.
