What's there to be skeptical about it?? I've never used one myself but that wouldn't stop me from using it.

It looks like the one side is rubber and the other side is metal... Put the rubber side towards the pan and the metal side towards the bolt head and tighten.

Check to make sure there are no leaks. Check again in a few days.

Even if you discover a leak - it's probably only a few drops. You can wait until your next oil change to get rid of it and get something different.
