I'm real glad everything turned out OK.

Folks are making a big deal about safety words, and being armed. But as I read your original description, the biggest single factor in the whole thing really looks to me like the fact that you had the door locked with a sturdy lock.

Polymerhead had both guns and door lock, right? But play out in your mind how this scenario would have gone down:

    1. With the guns, but with the door ajar, or just flimsy.

    2. Without any guns, but with the door sturdily locked.

My point isn't to get into some discussion about whether guns are or are necessary or a good idea for home protection! That's NOT what I'm getting at. By all means do what you need to do to protect your family and feel safe.

My point is: don't neglect the simple stuff! Installing a sturdy deadbolt and keeping the door locked all the time is your first, simplest, and cheapest form of home defense.

EDIT: To put it in Tacoma terms: Don't go out wheeling with $3000 worth of traction aids and armor, and neglect to bring a snatch strap!

BJMoose - yes, you're right. The locked door (a metal door in a metal frame with a deadbolt) helped solve the issue before it became life and death.

Fuck, thats hella scary, i dont know the first thing about fighting, except probably how to hit the ground softly, and not hurt myself. lol. Not much of a fighter. :p
I wouldn't know what to do in that situation, except maybe pull out my pocket knife, or grab my Katana (Its the real shiznit, not the chinatown POS and its fucking sharp) thats always on my wall and yell, while checking on my girlfriend, and lil sister...
Calling the cops wouldn't even come to mind, i don't think, well at least not until later.
Guess i should look into maybe purchasing a firearm. A nice lil pistol perhaps?????

P.S. Glad you are safe, and know what to do. Proud of my fellow TW members..

I know this is an old thread, and I'm with everyone else: I'm glad you're ok and you're very well prepared, etc, etc. but, I gotta say, who the hell keeps a .38 in their pocket while sitting around surfing the internet at night?

LOL, I have it in my pocket right now, actually. I carry it every day, everywhere I'm legally able (which is most places in my state with a CCW).
