So I'm going to skim this thread, but just incase anyone feels like answering me..

What should I do first? I'm going to pick up a decent scope when I buy the gun (from cabellas)

Don't have any gun modding experience so I don't know how important little things are. I will mostly be using it for plinking and target shooting with friends. Wondering about some sort of bipod (is that what you call the 2 legs for it)

Buy the most scope you can, not highest power, highest quality. Yes, on the bi-pod, the're handy at times. The main thing is the triggers on the newer guns is not that great. When I have a bit more time, I'll direct you to some stuff you can do to help/fix it.

I just called cabelas since its my first time buying a gun from them I wanted to make sure there won't be any unexpected surprises. He said they have one with a BSA scope for like $319. Blued and wood stock. Sounds like titties to me.

I checked out a site you posted somewhere.. Rimfirecentral.com looks of info.

As long as they are better than stock, look cool, and are easily installed I'll probably be interested. Thanks man

It's the trigger. It is wider than the factory one and has a little Allen screw on it to cut back on over travel during pull.

I'd sell both the trigger and bolt buffer for $22 shipped if anyone is interested. I can take pics later as well

Sounds pretty sweet. I'll keep that in mind. What exactly does the buffer do?

The stock bolt stop is metal and this one is some type of a hard rubber. It's suppose to make the action a little less harsh and prevent metal on metal action

Just making sure, I'd like to pick up another hammer, but don't really have a need for the trigger, as I pull the factory ones out and polish, then drill and tap, and install a set screw for over travel, it actually works better to drill and tap the back of the trigger guard and put the set in there. I've got a couple of each. OP pick yourself up a bolt buffer, smoothes out the entire cycle.

    Just the basics
Cool thread with many nice rifles.
I'll pick up my Ruger 10/22 takedown this week. It will be good to have an inexpensive plinker to compliment my AR.

my 10 22 i bought for 40 bucks from my boss a few years ago. never used it and thought about getting rid of it, but instead i gave it a face lift. its got an ati folding stock, some archangle mags, picatinny rail on top and a holographic sigh. nothin special, but i love this little gun now.

A 10/22, a brick of bullets, equal fun afternoon. I live in the country on 200 acres of woods and pasture. Have a couple of small ponds full of bull frogs and turtles. I back my pickup under a shade tree near the pond, put a lawn chair in the bed, add a six pack of beer, and tear hell out of the turtles sunning on logs in the pond. One shot, one kill. Very relaxing. Very good taget practice as well. 10/22 might very well be my favorite rifle. I know it's the one I shoot most often. Now for the bull frogs, nothing beats a Glock 21 in 45APC from off hand one handed. Just throw it up and shoot. Another way to get some good practice in and have some fun. Range not more than about 15 yards though. Considerably more yardage with the 10/22. 45ACP shooting can be kinda expensive. Just a little SHTF training though.

Alright so last time I was talking about getting a 10/22 I ended up with a bolt action instead, but after shooting it and realizing how slow it is, I decided I wanted a semi auto as well.

So Saturday I went back to cabelas and picked up a 10/22 and did some shooting afterwards. Damn this thing is nice.
