Modified this 30 dolar rack from lowes. Thined and padded tubing so my bike would fit with no rubbing to the derailer area, sanded it then sprayed it in bedliner, then got 2 adjustable rods and coated them in bedline to put across the bottom to keep it tight. leave it in the bed most of the time. it never moves and holds the bikes perfectly. Then if i have more than 2 bikes i have a hitch carrier for 4 more

I'm going to run a steel 1/4" bar across the back with a couple of fork mounts and locks. I'll eventually have a shell so I want it all too fit under the shell and be easy to access from the tail gate. It's nice to have bikes locked down for traveling farther than 10 or so miles.

not really, there is a purpose for both hardtail and full suspension on the trail, just because full suspension generally costs more doesn't mean it's for bragging rights or its a waste of money.

Roof rack designs for the Tacoma - dual purpose of bike holder via T-Tracks on the front and rear of rack with removable Yakima Blockheads for fork mounts, Wheel Forks, and Wheel Straps, and then using the T-Tracks for mounting a home-made Basket for camping and such.

I wouldn't go quite that far.

There are fat asses like me that ride MTN bikes too.

I have a FS because I like to go fast downhill and I would rather have a MTB with a supension front fork as well as a rear shock taking up some of that abuse, rather than just the tires, tubes, rims, hubs, spokes and the frame taking all that abuse.

    So true and well said

    My single speed = hardtail
    My Enduro= full suspension

Only a mountain biker would know this. Saying full suspension bikes are a waste of money or just for bragging rights is like saying bigger tires, or aftermarket shocks, etc are useless.

This may be true in both cases if
    A. They buy a full suspension but don't mountain bike
    B. They mod out a 4X4 and don't do any offloading (mall crawler)

I use the same set up as dalcomy

They don't move around at all. The pad I have has 6 Velcro straps across the top that tie down each bike at the down or top tube

Guess I've never looked close enough to see those. Didn't think folks were just throwin the bikes on there and they just magically stayed in place.

Not to sound like a dick but you own a $500 hard tail. I dont think you are in the position to discuss whether or not a full suspension bike is a waste of money. A wahoo is a great starter bike but I outrode my comparable bike after about a season and a half of riding. After moving over to a full suspension bike I will never go back unless its a dedicated road bike. Full suspension bikes are all about design, all are not the same. My Trek Fuel Ex9 has one of the most thought out designs on the market and rides like a dream, also at 26.5 pounds, its not like I am dragging a bunch more weight around...

Just my 2 cents, dont shit on something until you try it out.

I agree -- I also have an EX9 and use it on the more gnarly trails. For the smooth singletrack stuff, I ride a Fisher Sawyer HT with a Reba on the front. There is a HUGE difference in control when going fast over rough terrain -- I have to basically ride the front wheel on the HT since the back wheel bounces around so much. It's a different style of riding. The Sawyer is even a couple pounds heavier than the Fuel (but it is made of that wonderful ancient steel).

On topic: I have a couple of fork mounts (a Yakima and a cheap eBay one) that I mounted in the bed rail by grinding some big washers flat on two sides and sliding them into the channel. That only works for 9mm dropouts, or with the 20mm thru-axle adapter ($40, geez), and my Sawyer won't fit with the tailgate closed.

I mostly use a Thule T2 hitch-mounted tray rack. It works with all frame designs, I don't need a fork adapter, I don't have to remove a wheel or worry about the bikes banging into each other, and I can use it on my wife's 4Runner as well. IMHO, it is the best hitch rack out there -- just buy some extra straps in case you lose one or some bastard steals one.

I need some advice as to what bike rack is best for the bed of my Prerunner. I have both a mountain bike and a road bike so I'd like to find something that fits both. I have looked into the Rocky Mounts that everyone has raved about but I have rails on the bed for a tonneau cover where it would need to be bolted. any suggestions?

Does anyone have the Rocky Mounts with a Tri-Fold tonneau cover?

I'm just wondering if there is going to be enough room to get the bikes mounted with the tonneau folded up as it hangs out a little bit.

    Let me know!

I can't answer for a Tr-Fold, but my Access Ltd tonneau works fine withe the Delta mounts I have. They are cheaper than Rocky Mounts. For locking the bike, I usually run a cable through the frame and wheels, and lock it to one of the D-rings in the bed.

I have an Extang Trifecta trifold and the Rocky Mounts. When the tonneau is folded, it still covers 1/3 of the bed, you can't fold it up against the rear window. No way to use the mounts. Tonneau has to be removed, but it comes off quickly.

Did you mount this in the trac? If so how? Let me know where and how you mounted it this seems like a pretty good option!
