2011 Tacoma Access Cab Door Speakers

Ok so I am looking into putting a full audio system in my brand new truck. I got my custom sub box on order (thanks Mr. Marv) but I only have front door speakers. I see where the back access door speakers would go cause there is a panel cut out I am assuming its for that. Since it didn't come with factory speakers, what do I need in order to install speakers in the cab door? Is there a kit out there or something? Appreciate any guidance. I attached a pic for referrence. Thanks.

Sucks for us 2010+ that the rear "speakers" are nothing more than a couple of wired napkins in the headliner. This is quite possibly the cheapest way possible for Toy to claim a "6 speaker audio system". Just pure crap, wait till you put your hands on the front speakers. Cheap, cheap garbage.

Anyway, looks like you want a complete system but just for reference I recently replaced my front speakers with

$140 JBL GTO938 JBL GTO939 GTO Series 6x9" 300W 3 Way Black Car Coaxial Audio Speakers Stereo

JBL GTO938 6X9's, and the difference is tremendous. These speakers have a lot of low end power & clarity, something I found was missing in $50-60 range 6X9's. They were something like $85 from Amazon.

After putting these in I have no need at all for rears. It was quick, simple, inexpensive and the results were excellent for me.

 

The rear speakers are now in the headliner of an Access cab as mentioned however the speaker holes are still in the rear door inner frame as in previous models. Installing rear speakers in the original door location requires an adapter, running wires into the door, cutting a hole in the door panel and attaching a grill cover.

Also, I would agree that front speakers are most important in regards to SQ however rear speakers when implemented properly can be used to actually enhance the front stage. I prefer a nice soundstage up front so I use a left minus right/right minus left delayed signal from about 100hz-7khz on the rears (requires a specific processor or an amp such as a JL 500/5 that does left-right/right-left on the rear channels along with a head unit that has signal delay) however when processing is not available I use some simple tuning tricks without a tweeter in the rear to give a similar effect. On the other hand if you like more of a "club type" sound with music at the same level all around as opposed to the music focused up front then this type of tuning is not necessary so just put a set of speakers in the rear and crank it up if that is how you like to listen in your truck that you paid for!

 

Youre running those without an AMP on the stock HU? It will probably cause the stock HU to eventually overheat and blow out. These speakers are rated at 300W. The stock unit on the Tacoma is not designed to deliver that much power. If you run the speakers at high volumes for long stretches you are going to fry the HU. The unit will get red hot.

 

Huh? Running aftermarket speakers won't fry the hu just because they are rated at 300w, which btw is probably a peak power and not rms, doesn't mean you have run them at that power. It'll be fine to run with stock hu.

 

Running more powerful speakers on a stock head unit just means that the speakers probably won't get full power as the head unit can only produce so much.

In regards to getting speakers in the back doors of an 09+ Access cab you have a couple of options:

If you want to use the existing door panels, run speaker wires from either the speakers in the headliner or from the head unit to the back doors. Then, either cut a hole and install a grill over the hole or if you are skilled with a dremel, cut slots or some sort of vent for the sound to get through.

The other option is to find a set of interior door panels from an 05-08 AC Tacoma and replace yours with them OR a company called Xtreme Kreations makes an AC door panel for Xrunners that will work with any other AC cab Tacoma and that allows you to mount a sub and speaker into the door.

There are some choices out there but they can be pricy and/or time consuming to do. I chose to upgrade my speakers in the front doors and that made a huge difference. I'm planning on putting a better HU in next and with the factory TRD sub in the back I think I will have more than enough sound for my needs. However, it's your truck so you can do whatever you like

 

Is there a "How to" remove the headliner and replace the speakers?

Also, when you upgraded your stock speakers, (front door) are the tweaters still operational?

 

As others have mentioned I don't believe this is accurate. The stock unit definately does not have nearly the power these speakers can handle and an amp would give me much more volume. But, I don't listen to anything at high volumes, much less for long stretches, so this suits me just fine.

 

Too bad my panels only fit 05-08 access can models or these might be perfect for you. top fits a 6.5" speaker and bottom fits a 10" sub with .5cu.ft of air space and 6.5" depth.

Those panels are sweet! Wished they made something like that for a '12.

 

My stock panels are the same as the OP. Once I get some sets of the 05-08 panels I make sold then I will start to make sets for 09+ access cabs.

 

A speakers makes no power what so ever. You can run speakers that are rated 1000w rms on 20 rms all day long and it'll be just fine as long as the signal is not clipping or distorting. Just because a speaker is rated at 200rms doesn't mean you have to give it that power.

 

I have a 2010 with the speakers in the headliner. I was told to just leave them alone and disconnect them. Then mount speakers in the rear access doors and connect those to the rear speaker wires. Do you have any instruction or advice on the best way to do that? Where to cut the holes in the panels, what covers to use, etc.?
